The Honorable Assemblyman for the Canteen Electoral Area, Ananpansah Bartholomew Abraham (AB), has officially inaugurated and handed over a newly constructed standard volleyball court to the Canteen Volleyball team.

The ceremony, held on Friday, June 21, 2024 was marked by vibrant celebrations and spirited volleyball matches.

The event culminated in matches between St. Anne’s Schools and Canteen Schools. In the men’s game, St. Anne’s Schools triumphed over Canteen Schools with a score of 2-1, while in the girls’ category, Canteen School girls emerged victorious with a 2-1 win against St. Anne’s School girls.

Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, Assemblyman Abraham commended the teams for their outstanding sportsmanship and expressed gratitude to World Vision for funding the project.

He emphasized the dedication and effort it took to complete the volleyball court, highlighting the community’s resilience and passion for sports.

“This project is a testament to vision, sacrifice, and a love for community growth,” he said, thanking his working team, Unit Committee Members, and community volunteers for their unwavering support.

He also acknowledged the contribution of 30 bags of cement from the Municipal Chief Executive for the West Gonja Municipal, Hon. Musah Karim Kusubari.

The Assemblyman reiterated his commitment to sports development in the area, revealing plans for a registered division three team in Canteen. He highlighted his record in local sports development, including the Annual Assemblyman Gala Games and various donations of sports kits.

In recognition of the newly formed volleyball team, Assemblyman Abraham donated a volleyball net and volleyball. Additionally, he presented a standard football to the Canteen team to support their training for upcoming juvenile games. To maintain the Canteen park, he handed over a grass mowing machine, donated by Accra-based businessman Alhaji Sulemana Alancash.

Former Assemblyman Hon. Adam Mohammed Gadafi Kramonday, representing the Chief of Canteen, conveyed the Chief’s gratitude and urged the community to maintain unity for continued development.

District Football Association Chairman Mr. Saaka Iddrisu praised the initiative, urging for discipline and support for sports in the municipality.

All participating teams received prizes, including standard footballs, assorted drinks, and exercise books, fostering a spirit of community and sportsmanship.
