Jinapor Criticizes Garlus, Defends NPP Stronghold in Damongo

The MP for Damongo and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has directed sharp remarks towards the former MP for Damongo, Hon. Garlus.

Jinapor asserted that if former President John Mahama had wanted Garlus in Parliament, he would have appointed him as a minister during his presidency.

The comments were made during the official inauguration of a storm drain project in Ngbaripe, part of the Hangaline electoral area, on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

Hon. Abu Jinapor criticized Garlus for leveraging Mahama’s name for political gain, suggesting that Garlus’s failure to secure a parliamentary position during Mahama’s presidency indicated a lack of support from the former President. “The former MP who couldn’t beat me while serving as MP cannot do the same in opposition,” Jinapor remarked.

Mr. Jinapor further claimed that Garlus was not favored by Mahama, questioning his absence from key government appointments during Mahama’s tenure. He contrasted this with his own appointment by President Akufo-Addo as a cabinet minister, asserting that it underscored his strong political standing.

The current MP declared that the Damongo constituency remains a secured seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December general elections and challenged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to bring their full campaign efforts to Damongo, but be assured that the NPP would maintain its hold on the seat.

The Damongo MP referenced the 2020 elections, where the NDC focused heavily on Damongo and subsequently lost three seats to the NPP, reducing their regional stronghold from six seats.

Emphasizing his commitment to his constituency, Jinapor dismissed the NDC’s tactics as mere “talk talk” propaganda, vowing to continue his development work to secure a decisive victory.

He warned that hatred does not win elections, promising to meet the NDC’s efforts “boot for boot” to ensure a larger margin of victory.

Jinapor urged NPP members to unite and work diligently towards victory in the December elections, highlighting the party’s role in driving development and progress in the region.
