The Savannah Regional Peace Council on 22nd July, 2022, held a conflict sensitivity and reporting capacity building for the media and information officers in the Savannah region at the Catholic Guest House Conference Hall, Damongo.

The training seeks to enlighten media practitioners and information officers on the emerging violent conflicts, conflict analysis and sensitivity in their everyday reportage.

Mr. Clifford Tampuri, the regional director of peace council said the increased emergence of violent conflict in our communities calls for this engagement and appealed to media persons to be mindful in their reportage in other not to create fear and panic anytime there conflict between two parties.

Mr Tampuri

He further stated, the media plays the role of mediation in conflict resolutions rather than escalating issues among victims hence the need for the media to act as facilitators rather trying to take credit or pointing to a party of wrong doing, because ‘conflict resolutions lies between the conflictors”.

Clifford Tampuri admonished community members to use non violent strategies in addressing their grievances rather than using violent ways in mitigating their differences.

Rev Fr. Lazarus Annyereh, the Chairman of the Savannah Regional Peace Council called for diplomatic dialogue in dealing with conflict issues. He acknowledged the importance of the media in our communities hence stating that the media has the power to escalate and de-escalate conflicts in our communities.

Rev Fr Lasarus

He reinstated that peace making dialogue and conflict analysis are key in reporting or dealing with conflicts and violence in our communities.

The peace council as part of it’s mandate, is the facilitation and development of mechanisms to promote peace.
The National Peace Council is a statutory public institution established by Act 2011 (Act 818) under the ministry of Interior, Ghana.
