The Savannah Regional Health Directorate in collaboration with the West Gonja Municipal Health Directorate on Tuesday, 13th December 2022 held stakeholders consultative meeting on the Wellness Clinic Concept, a WHO NORAD-supported initiative to bring health care delivery to the doorstep of the Municipal populace.

Mr. Iddrisu Mohammed

Mr. Iddrisu Mohammed, a Deputy Regional Director of Health in charge of Clinical Care Services in a welcome address on behalf of Regional Director of health Services (RDHS) indicated that, Ghana Health Service in a strive to improve health care on the increasing burden of NCDs came out with the Wellness Clinic idea, an initiative geared towards providing free medical screenings to the people within the Municipality.

These services can be accessed in hospitals, Health Centres, and at the various CHPS Compounds.

In this context, he indicated that the Wellness Clinics will cover services such as Blood Pressure checking, Body Mass or Weight Index (BMI), Blood Sugar test for diabetes, and other vital parameters that can tell whether one is healthy within those parameters.

The Deputy Regional Director of Health added that the Savannah Regional Health Directorate saw it necessary to engage stakeholders and partners because healthcare delivery is a shared responsibility. Stakeholders can make or unmake the success of health interventions such as this.

He admonished the stakeholders and partners to embrace the Wellness Clinic Concept/Services through which other Districts in the region will benefit from the initiative as it’s currently being implemented only in the West Gonja Municipality.

He also urged them to come out actively to support the Wellness Clinic activities in their respective Sub-Municipals in order to get anticipated results. This will enable us to share the positive results with partners and to ask for more support to scale it up in the region.

Several speakers including the Wellness Clinic Coordinator (Hadi Tukur) in the region, Health Promotions Officer (Madam Janet Kulah), and the Regional Nutrition Officer (Mr. Braimah Kamara) took the participants through some health education on the ascending NCDs and the need for Wellness Clinics/Free Screenings, urging them to embrace the initiative by Ghana Health Service for that matter the Savannah Regional Health Directorate.
