Prof. Ahmed Jinapor, Director-General, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) led a delegation to the Jakpa Palace to officially inform the King and Overlord of Gonja Kingdom about the absorption of Savannah College of Education as a public College of Education by the government of Ghana.
Prof. Ahmed Jinapor assured the Overlord of Gonja that he would work closely with the education minister Haruna Iddrisu, President John Mahama, and other stakeholders to develop the school.
The delegation visited Jakpa Palace on 13th March 2025.

Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale l sent a delegation to Accra to meet with the right stakeholders to get the college absorbed by the government of Ghana in March 2025. The delegation is composed of Chiefs, administrators, and Politicians, among others. The school was subsequently absorbed by the government on 7th March, 2025.
Prof Ahmed Jinapor explained that “few weeks ago, a delegation was sent by Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale l to Accra to meet with both education ministry and President John Mahama to put in measures to complete the process of absorbing the Savannah College of Education, Daboya.
We are here to officially inform you that the school has been absorbed by the government of Ghana as a public college of education. This is the 47th public college of education in Ghana.”

Prof Ahmed Jinapor appealed to the sons and daughters of Gonjaland to contribute to their quota to help the school develop because the government alone can not do everything.
Prof. Ahmed Jinapor Director-General, GTEC, Professor Elliott Alhassan Vice Chancellor, University for Development Studies and Chairman of Savannah College Governing Council, Dr. Musah Ekpampo, Acting Principal of Savannah College of Education, Regional Coordinating Director, among other high profile persons, were present at the Jakpa Palace.
The Ministry of Education, in partnership with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), announced the successful absorption of Savannah College of Education into the public college system on 7th March, 2025. This milestone reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to expanding access to quality teacher education and fortifying the nation’s educational framework.
Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale l expressed gratitude to President John Mahama, education minister Haruna Iddrisu, Prof Ahmed Jinapor and team for executing the process to get the school absorbed. And called on all subjects to support the school with needed resources.
Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale l also appealed to the to more tertiary institutions in the Gonja Kingdom to help address human resource challenges in the Kingdom.
