Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei, Director of Legal Affairs at the office of Speaker of Parliament has filed his nomination forms to contest the upcoming NDC primaries in the Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency of the Savannah region.
The filing was done on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Daboya.

Addressing party supporters after going through the process successfully, Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei said the major reason he is contesting the primaries is to win the seat back from the NPP and therefore called on NDC party faithfuls to remain calm and united and run decent internal campaign that will see the party more united after the primaries.
He is confident the NDC will win the seat in 2024 general elections because almost all projects started by NDC under John Mahama and those initiated by Lawyer Mahama Shaibu have not been completed yet, seven good years after the NPP won power.

Obei and party father

Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei accused the NPP of winning the seat in the 2020 general elections through lies and monetization of the system and abandoned almost all projects started by NDC.

“Indeed, the NPP rode at the back of lies and monetized the whole system to win the elections, even on the day of voting there was money being distributed for peoples’ vote.

Virtually all the projects that were started by ex-president John Mahama and Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei have not being completed. I believe it is only the next NDC government that can come and continue with the very good works that were started to better the lives of the people of Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency”.

Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei further accused the NPP of making the cost of living of the constituents worse, subjecting them to poverty, most especially the rural areas. Saying “these are some of the major reasons why I am coming back. Politics is all about development and bettering the lives of the people”.

I’m coming on board to push for all major projects to be completed and to help better the lives of the people. The constituents are suffering in all sectors. Businesses are collapsing and the socioeconomic hardship keeps increasing, he added.

The major occupations of the constituents in the area are smock weaving, fishing and farming.

Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei said the NPP has made these three occupations unattractive to the people due to high cost of materials and inputs. People find it difficult to invest into farming, fishing and smock weaving due to high cost of materials and inputs.
He assured that when voted into power, these major occupations will be revamped and become attractive to the youth to help them own their economic lives. He also assured the teaming youth who gathered at the party office to support him file the nomination forms of better jobs when the NDC wins the 2024 general elections.

The former MP for Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency said the NDC is a democratic party hence, each member of good standing can contest internal primaries but very confident the good works he did during his four years will speak to the minds of the delegates and make this contest easier.

He reiterated his call for clean campaign towards the May 2023 primaries saying ‘this is an internal contest and so we must run decent campaign in order not to dirty the good image of the NDC.
At the end of the day we will come together as a team. The ultimate goal is to win the seat back and we are on course to winning the seat back from the NPP’.

Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei and his campaign team paid a visit to the Wasipewura palace to inform him of his decision and to also seek for his blessings. Wasipewura Kabasagya Anyame II expressed gratitude to Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei for display of respect and prayed that the gods of Wasipe lands will support deliver victory to lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei.

Earlier, Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei and the team visited NDC constituency party father’s residence to inform him of the intention to file nomination forms.

Constituency Chairman Mr Gbepo Salifu advised all candidates and their teams to run smooth campaign because the NDC is poised for power in 2024. The NDC can only win power with a united front, he added.

Scores of party faithfuls throned to the river bank to welcome Lawyer Mahama Shaibu Obei amidst drumming and dancing.
