Health:National Health Insurance Scheme launches week celebrations in Damongo

The National health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Savannah region has on Tuesday, 16th November, 2021, launched this year’s NHIS week celebrations in the Savannah regional capital, Damongo.

The Scheme’s Regional and District management teams together with workers of Zoomlion Ghana limited and the hairdressers and Tailors Associations in Damongo all stepped out in a float to mark this year’s week celebrations under the theme “using Ghana card for expanding access to health care”

The Regional NHIS Manager, Mr. Mahama Dauda in an address explained that the National Health Insurance Scheme has gone through a lot of innovations in the past years and has been noted as one of the best in Africa and has joined the digitization path of the country thus, linking the NHIS card and the Ghana card together to allow persons under the Scheme to use the Ghana card to access health care services anywhere in the country.

Mr. Mahama Dauda noted that, this years celebration marks the turning point of the national digitization agenda which marks the beginning of a new era in the National Health Insurance system and Savannah region is not left out .

He further explained that, clients who have their cards expired or deactivated will have them activated and working instantly when renewed within the week celebrations period which started on the 15th and will ends on the 19th of November, 2021.

The Regional Manager disclosed that, the scheme has also introduced some additional treatment and diagnosis package on some diseases including early childhood Cancer where children with such conditions and users of the National Health Insurance Scheme will be treated for free.

The Municipal Scheme Manager for West Gonja municipality, Mr Sumani Inusah on his side appealed to clients to have faith in the National Health Insurance Authority and that the Authority is working tirelessly in ensuring that each and every Ghanaian have access to quality health care.

Mr. Inusah added that, the National health Insurance Scheme in it’s wisdom is working to ensure that everyone is covered under the scheme to meet the universal health coverage challenge by 2023.

He added that issues of co-payment is an illegality and the task lies on each and every patient that visits the hospital or health centres to make formal reports of such incidents to the National Health Insurance Authority for follow ups to be made to such facilities where this acts are practiced.

The Authority has rolled out home-based innovations such as NHIS and Ghana Cards linkage, Mobile Renewal Service, Digital Counter to give real time updates of Active Membership, Waiver of the 1(one) month waiting period and Activation of members serving the waiting period. 

The major activities marking this years week celebrations include the NHIS and Ghana Cards linkage, Floats, Road shows, Enrollment of new members, Membership renewals, Monitoring and Support Visits.
