The Hon. Member of Parliament for Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency, Alhaji Lawyer Shaibu Mahama Obei, on Friday, June 19, 2026, officially introduced the first-ever medical doctor for the North Gonja District to the Paramount Chief of the Wasipe Traditional Area, HRM Wasipewura Mumuni Anyame Kabasagya II, and his council of chiefs at the Wasipewuraโs Palace in Daboya.

Hon. Obei, accompanied by the NDC Constituency Chairman and other party members, presented Dr. Cletus, an experienced medical practitioner who has agreed to serve as the permanent medical doctor at the Daboya health facility. The development marks a major milestone in healthcare delivery in the district and is expected to significantly improve access to quality medical services for residents.
The arrival of a resident medical doctor is anticipated to reduce referrals to distant hospitals for cases that can be managed locally.
Residents will now have access to enhanced healthcare services, including the management of various medical conditions and the performance of minor surgical procedures such as hernia repairs and appendectomies.
To facilitate the commencement of medical services, Hon. Obei has released funds for the renovation of consulting rooms at the health facility while work continues on the construction of a theatre and wards. The MP reaffirmed his commitment to transforming healthcare infrastructure in the constituency, indicating that similar interventions would also be extended to Mankarigu after the completion of projects in Daboya.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Cletus expressed gratitude to the Wasipewura and his chiefs for the warm reception and pledged to discharge his duties with professionalism, diligence, and dedication. He also appealed for the necessary support and enabling environment to ensure effective healthcare delivery, a request that received assurance from the Paramount Chief.
The medical doctor further commended Hon. Obei for his vision and commitment to strengthening the health sector in the constituency, praying for divine guidance and strength for the MP to continue implementing impactful development projects for the benefit of the people.
Following the introduction ceremony, Hon. Obei and the medical team inspected the ongoing construction of the theatre and ward facilities and expressed satisfaction with the progress of work.
The introduction of a permanent medical doctor to North Gonja District is widely seen as a significant step toward improving healthcare outcomes and enhancing the well-being of residents, reinforcing the belief that quality healthcare remains a cornerstone of sustainable development, according to statement by the Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency Communication Officer, Alhaji Jabaru John.
