The Member of Parliament for Damongo and Ranking Member, Parliamentary Select Committee on Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor, has urged candidates writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in Damongo to stay focused, work hard, and pursue meaningful activities after their exams.

Addressing hundreds of enthusiastic BECE candidates on the final day of the exam at Damongo on Tuesday, 17th June, 2025, Abu Jinapor commended them for their dedication and resilience throughout the examination period.
“My friends, candidates for the BECE, I want to thank you for coming together this morning to meet me, and for the warm welcome,” he said. “Let me also congratulate you very warmly for taking all your papers successfully and for being ready to take your final paper today.”

He emphasized the need to give thanks to God for good health and successful participation in the exams, noting that in some places, candidates had unfortunately collapsed or could not complete their papers.
Reflecting on his own educational journey, the former Lands and Natural Resources Minister revealed he wrote his BECE in 1998 at the same Damongo Secondary School, after attending St. Anne’s R/C JHS.

“If you keep your mind to it, stay determined, work hard, and remain focused, you can achieve ten times more than I have done,” he told the students. “Finish hard, take your last paper seriously, and tackle it with all your strength.”
Hon. Jinapor, who has made it a tradition to personally visit and motivate BECE candidates for the past nine years, reaffirmed his commitment to the youth of Damongo.

“Your success is my success, and God forbid, your failure will be my failure. That is why I must stand with you—regardless of your background, tribe, or religion. I’m your servant and I’ll be with you forever.”
He encouraged students, especially the girls, to remain focused and avoid distractions in the period between completing their exams and enrolling in senior high school.
“When you finish your exams, don’t just idle about. Help your parents at home or on the farm. Engage in productive ventures. And above all, be patient and stay focused. Your education is what will make or unmake you,” he advised.
The students responded with enthusiasm and applause, visibly inspired by his words of encouragement and support.

The 2025 BECE concludes today across Ghana, with thousands of students taking a critical step toward their academic and professional futures.
