The NPP in the Damongo constituency of the Savannah region is calling on the general public to disregard news about some youth of Busunu in the Damongo constituency rejecting purported rice meant for the celebration of Eidul Adha Salah.

In a statement signed by the constituency Chairman, Alhaji Adam Braimah, it states ” the MP never donated or offered rice to any youth or youth groups in the constituency and, thus, NO such rice could have been rejected. There was, therefore, no such rejection since no youth or group of young persons were given rice let alone for it to be rejected”.

A Video of youth group in Busunu community went viral whilst rejecting bags of rice carried to the town for distribution in the area by pickup.

In the said video, the youth were seen parking the bags of rice back into the bucket of the pickup with statements such as; we need jobs and not rice, we have gone past the days of rice politics, take your rice away, among others.

Read below the statement read by the NPP chairman at a press conference on July 21, 2021, Damongo.

For Immediate Release

“The New Patriotic Party in the Damongo Constituency’s attention has been drawn to a video which suggest that some youth of Busunu rejected rice from their MP.

Firstly, the MP never donated or offered rice to any youth or youth groups in the constituency and, thus, NO such rice could have been rejected. There was, therefore, no such rejection since no youth or group of young persons were given rice let alone for it to be rejected.

As is customary across the country during Eid, the festival of sacrifice and generosity, our MP made donations to Imams, Chiefs and Queen Mothers only.

While it is a fact that the government of President Akufo-Addo has made significant efforts in resolving the age old youth unemployment issue in our country, Damongo Constituency and Busunu inclusive, Hon. Jinapor recognizes that a lot more work remains to be done to bring the issue of youth unemployment to a satisfactory situation. It will require appreciable time and consistent action as is currently being done.

Hon. Jinapor remains focused on delivering on his mandate as the representative of the good and dignified people of Damongo Constituency, just as he is committed to continue to contribute to government’s efforts in the realization of the aspirations of the Ghanaian people”.

Thank you.

End.

…Signed…
Alhaji Adam Braimah
