The Damongo Catholic Diocese has distributed medical equipment to eight Diocesan Health Facilities in the Diocese worth two hundred and fifty thousand Euros (€250,000) to support the delivery of health services in the Savannah region of Ghana.

The distribution of these medical equipment is aimed at improving the health care delivery chains in the area.

In mid 2023 the Diocesan Development Coordinator, Very Rev. Fr Sylvester Kuubetersuur travelled to Germany and had engagement with friends and development partners, on behalf of the Bishop of the Diocese.

During those engagements with friends and partners in Germany, Very Rev. Fr. Sylvester explained the need to enhance medical delivery to the Damongo Diocese.

Duisburg Parish, which has a direct partnership with Martyrs of Uganda Parish in Bole, Ghana, and is sponsoring the construction of the new Bole polyclinic in the Bole district, sponsored some of the equipment. Duisburg Parish has already funded the construction of an OPD block in Bole for the Martyrs of Uganda Polyclinic which has been inaugurated and put to use.

The equipment includes 2-Ventilators,
38 Hospital beds, 80 thousand surgical masks, 2-ultra sound machines, some mattresses, among others.

These equipment were brought to Ghana to support delivery of services at Martyrs of Uganda polyclinic in Bole.

The Damongo Diocesan Health Director, Mr Aiden Ngmenbon also visited Germany in 2023 and had interaction with some development partners, particularly, the Helios Klinic in Lengarich through friends in Saebeck. The Helios Klinic decided to support health delivery in the St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital in Damongo, situated in the St. Theresa’s Parish.
They supported the hospital with hospital beds, 50 blood pressure monitoring machines and stethoscopes, 50 glucometers, and mattresses, among other medical consumables.

According to Mr Aiden Ngmenbon, the Bishop of Damongo Diocese, Most Rev Peter Paul Y. Angkyier and all his appointees are working assiduously to improve health care delivery in the Diocese and the Savannah Region. The effort of the Diocese is complementing the efforts of the Savannah Regional Health Directorate to meet the health care needs of the people.

Aiden commended the Bishop for casting his net wide to capture all of his appointees. And said these medical equipment are being distributed to all the eight health facilities under the Diocese on behalf of the Bishop.

The beneficiary health facilities include the St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital in Damongo, Holy Family Catholic Polyclinic in Kulmasa and Blessed Maria Assunta Catholic Polyclinic in Tinga.

The rest are Martyrs of Uganda Catholic Polyclinic in Bole, Donald Richard Memorial Catholic Health Center in Nkwabi, Good Shepherd Catholic Health Center in Tuna, St. Joseph Catholic Health Center in Kalba, and Catholic Clinic in Kusawgu.

Rev. Sr. Patricia Zaghe – Franciscan Missionary Mission (FMM), on behalf of the beneficiary health centers expressed gratitude to Most Rev Bishop of Damongo Diocese Peter Paul A. Yelezuome, the Diocesan Development Coordinator, Diocesan Health Director, the friends and partners and all the stakeholders for the hard work and selfless leadership to deliver them the medical equipment.
Rev Sr. Patricia assured the Diocese that the medical equipment will be to good use to the benefit of all.

The distribution of the medical equipment started on 12th February, 2024 at the Diocesan Secretariat, Damongo.
