Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, the Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area, has been elected Vice President of Ghana’s National House of Chiefs. In the election held on Friday, November 22, 2024, in Kumasi, he secured a commanding victory with 54 votes, defeating three other candidates.
Meanwhile, Nana Ogyeahohuo Yaw Gyebi II was re-elected as President of the National House of Chiefs, winning 42 votes against Dormaahene Osaagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II’s 30 votes. The elections were briefly delayed due to a legal challenge by Nana Samgba Gyafla, the Chief of Sampa.
About Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II
Born on April 6, 1948, in Savannah Region, Buipewura Jinapor II has an extensive background in education, law enforcement, and traditional leadership. A former Assistant Superintendent of Police, he retired after 39 years of service and ascended the Buipe Traditional throne in 2008. He has five children, including notable Ghanaian politicians John Abdulai Jinapor and Samuel Abdulai Jinapor.
The National House of Chiefs is Ghana’s constitutional body uniting traditional leaders across the country.
