The presentation ceremony took place on Thursday, 18th December, 2025, at the conference hall of the West Gonja Municipal Assembly in Damongo.

Out of the total number of applicants, 46 beneficiaries who applied for cash support received their funds in the form of cheques to enable them invest in income generating activities to support themselves and their families. Applicants who requested support in the form of deep freezers, refrigerators, animals, and other equipment are currently on a waiting list, as the Assembly goes through the necessary procurement processes to meet their needs.
In his address, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for West Gonja, Hon. Yakubu Yussif Castro, emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and fairness in the administration of the Disability Fund, which forms part of the District Assembly Common Fund.

He disclosed that the Assembly intends to develop a comprehensive database of persons with disabilities within the municipality. According to him, the database will help track beneficiaries, ensure proper documentation of support received, and improve coordination with non-governmental organizations supporting persons with disabilities.
The MCE noted that the lack of proper records in the past had led to accusations of misapplication of funds, a situation the current administration is determined to correct by ensuring that all distributions are well documented and open to public scrutiny.

Hon. Castro assured applicants whose requests could not be fulfilled during the ceremony that they would be supported once the procurement processes are completed. He added that other eligible persons with disabilities who were not covered during this phase would be considered in subsequent disbursements.
The event was attended by Assembly officials, Assembly Members, staff of the Social Welfare Department, representatives of the media, and beneficiaries.

The initiative forms part of the Assembly’s broader efforts to empower persons with disabilities economically and promote their inclusion in local development.
