Concerned executives, members, youth, and devoted supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Larabanga, within the Damongo Constituency of the Savannah Region, have formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama, drawing attention to what they describe as decades of political neglect despite unwavering loyalty to the party.
The petition, dated 10th December, 2025, was addressed to the President through the Savannah Regional Minister and the Regional Coordinating Council in Damongo.
In the strongly worded but respectful petition, the group stressed that their action was not driven by rebellion or entitlement, but by a deep sense of fairness, justice, and emotional pain. They described Larabanga as one of the NDC’s most consistent strongholds, noting that the community has stood by the party through hardship, intimidation, and changing political tides.
According to the petitioners, elders have made personal sacrifices, youth have campaigned tirelessly, and families have risked livelihoods to defend the ideals of the NDC yet the community remains largely unrecognized when appointments and opportunities are shared.
The petition emphasized that Larabanga is not a peripheral community, but a cultural, spiritual, and political pillar of the Damongo Constituency. The group argued that equity and justice demand that Larabanga should benefit fairly from political appointments and development opportunities flowing into the constituency.
They maintained that the continued exclusion of the community has created deep emotional wounds and undermined morale among loyal party supporters.
One of the most emotional sections of the petition highlighted Larabanga’s spiritual support for the NDC and its leadership. The petitioners revealed that Imams in the community have consistently offered special prayers for President Mahama’s well-being, leadership, and electoral success often away from public attention.
They described it as “emotionally devastating” that a community that prays fervently for the party’s success feels ignored when opportunities arise.
The group also warned that the perceived neglect has created an opening for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to make inroads into the community. According to them, political opponents are exploiting the frustration by offering attention and promises where silence has prevailed.
They cautioned that without urgent intervention, Larabanga risks shifting from being a traditional NDC stronghold to a political battleground an outcome they described as a historic and avoidable loss.
The petition concluded with a poignant comparison, questioning why Larabanga reportedly received recognition under an NPP administration, yet feels sidelined under the very party it has faithfully supported for decades.
The petitioners appealed directly to President Mahama to intervene, restore hope, and ensure that Larabanga receives fair representation, recognition, and inclusion in the governance and political opportunities of the Damongo Constituency.
As of the time of filing this report, no official response has been issued by the Presidency or party leadership.
