Some unidentified persons suspected to be arsonists have set fire on the heeps of maize belonging to the Hon. Savannah regional minister, Saeed Muhazu Jibril.
The sad event happened on Wednesday January 1, 2025 at his farm, a few meters away from Damongo, the Savannah regional capital.
Security services are investigating the incident to unravel persons behind the barbaric act in the over 60-hectors of farm land.
Despite efforts to safeguard the farm with fire belts, the fire rapidly consumed the harvest, leaving the minister and his farm manager in disbelief.
Farm workers could only watch on as their labor went up in smoke.
The Damongo community is in shock at the devastating act particularly, as the harvest was expected to play a crucial role in the area’s food supply.
This incident could be a bad ground to push prices of farm produce higher due to the fact that the area experienced dry-spell in the middle of 2024, causing a lot more damage to farm plants.
