MTN Ghana Foundation’s annual ‘Save A Life’ blood donation campaign in the Savannah Region has marked a significant milestone with the collection of over 160 units of blood.
The campaign, which took place on Wednesday, 14th February, 2024, coinciding with Valentine’s Day, a day set aside to show love to loves ones, saw enthusiastic participation from residents of Bole and Damongo.
The ‘Save a Life’ initiative, a collaborative effort between MTN, its partners, customers and the public, aims to bolster the National Blood Bank and the various regional and district health facilities across Ghana.
This year, the Foundation set a target of collecting 7,000 units of blood from bleeding centers across all 16 regions of the country.
In the savannah region, the foundation collected 93 and 71 units of donated blood at the Damongo town clinic and Bole senior high school bleeding centers respectively.
Mr. Matthew Abugbilla, the territory Controller of MTN in the Savannah Region, reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery in the region and the nation at large.
He also emphasized MTN’s dedication to promoting a thriving society, particularly in the communities it serves, by actively replenishing blood banks to contribute to saving lives.
He highlighted the positive impact of the campaign since its inception in 2011, noting that over 26,000 pints of blood have been collected to date.
Madam Theodora Elorm, a Medical Social Welfare Worker at St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital, commended MTN Ghana for the initiative and assured the fair distribution and safekeeping of the donated blood in the hospital’s blood bank.
Madam Gertrude Yentumi, the West Gonja Municipal Director of Health Services who participated in the event together with some health officers, lauded MTN Foundation for its efforts and emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation in addressing critical gaps in blood supply and reducing maternal mortality rates.
She further emphasized the tragic loss of lives at certain facilities because blood was unavailable at the blood banks and expressed her readiness to support such initiatives by corporate bodies at any time.
The Municipal health Director also encouraged public participation in the campaign and urged other organizations to emulate MTN’s impactful initiatives.
MTN Ghana Foundation’s partnership with the National Blood Service aims not only to raise awareness about the need for safe blood transfusions but also to provide an avenue for societal contribution, especially for those who have benefited from blood donations.
The ‘Save a Life’ campaign by MTN Ghana Foundation continues to garner recognition for its significant contributions to Ghana’s healthcare system, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing crucial healthcare needs.
