Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of Gonja Kingdom and President of Savannah Region House of Chiefs has commended telecommunications giant, MTN Ghana, for its continuous support to traditional councils with the aim of promoting tradition and cultural heritage in Ghana.
He noted that MTN Ghana’s heroics in supporting tradition and cultural festivals across the country is a positive initiative that connects the company to the chiefs and people of various traditional councils in Ghana.
Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale I also expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana over the decision to acquire land to start the construction of MTN Ghana’s Savannah regional head office in Damongo. He believes this decision will bring the services of MTN Ghana to his people, adding that he will assist MTN Ghana to easily settle when the construction is completed.
Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale I said this at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo on Thursday September 19, 2024, during MTN Ghana’s presentation of ten thousand Ghana cedis cheque (GHC10,000), mineral water, assorted drinks to support this year’s Yagbon Damba.
The 2024 Yagbon Damba will be held on Monday September 23, 2024 at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo.
The President of the Savannah Region House of Chiefs (SRHC) also appealed to MTN Ghana to consider his newly established Yagbon Educationa Fund into its operations to assist the needy in and around the Gonja Kingdom.
Aseye Kwami Akude – Northern Regional Manager (Retail Experience) who led MTN Ghana team to the palace explained that MTN Ghana, as part of it’s corporate social responsibilities is supporting the damba festival to help deepen the relationship between MTN Ghana and Gonja Traditional Council because of the importance of festivals.
“For us in MTN Ghana anything that is of importance to our people also matters to us. And one of the things that matters to us is the celebration of our festivals in Ghana. Festivals reveal a lot about our society and bring about our culture and so very important to MTN Ghana”.
Kwaku Akude noted that the company is an African company and therefore cherishes every focused festival. MTN has been supporting traditional councils over the years and will continue to do so to promote the African heritage.
“Over the years we have supported a lot of traditional councils during celebrations of various festivals, so what we are doing here today is not anything different. We believe the support will help revive our values and principles as Africans and as Ghanaians.
MTN is an African company and so we place a lot of importance on African heritage”, he added.
On behalf of MTN Ghana, Kwame Akude wishes the Overlord and Gonja Traditional Council well in the celebrations and reveal that the company will set up operation centers at the forecourt of Jakpa Palace during the damba festival to allow customers visit the MTN stands to gain easy access to wide range of services the company offers.
He encourages MTN Ghana customers to use available MTN apps (applications) such as the MOMO app, MyMTN app, AYOBA chart apps, among others.
Mobile money and associated frauds are rampant in the system. He disclosed that MTN Ghana will use the opportunity to educate the public to control their finances.
“We will also be taking advantage of the celebration to educate our customers on things around mobile money fraud, which is very important so that people can safeguard their resources and finances and do not fall victim to these fraudsters”.
Kwame Akude assured the Overlord that his advice to MTN Ghana to support the Yagbon Educationa Fund will be forwarded to management. The MTN foundation has three thematic areas; Education, Health and Economic empowerment.
