Former president John Mahama has urged party members of the National Democratic Congress in the Damongo constituency to be more united after the party’s internal primaries to be able to recapture the Damongo seat.
The former President made the statement whilst addressing party delegates at Damongo on Friday, 12th May, 2023 as part of his two days campaign tour of the Savannah Region as a presidential candidate hopeful for the opposition NDC party.
He urged them to prioritize unity following the party’s upcoming primaries irrespective of who becomes victorious with the aim of recapturing the Damongo constituency.
The former President also indicated that, it is common for party members to engage in spirited campaigns and competitions during primaries but noted that, after the primaries, party unity becomes crucial as all members must come together to support the selected candidates in the general elections.
Former President Mahama’s call for unity among party members suggests that he recognizes the importance of a cohesive and coordinated effort in the pursuit of recapturing the Damongo constituency seat for the NDC.
By emphasizing unity, he aims to unite party members behind the party’s chosen candidate to increase their chances of success in the upcoming elections.
He later introduced the two parliamentary aspirants of the NDC in the Damongo Constituency to the delegates.
The two are, former MP for Damongo, Adam Mutawakilu Garlus and Lawyer Baba Zankawah.
The NDC has set May 13th for it’s presidential and parliamentary primaries to elect candidates for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
