Judicial Service of Ghana engages stakeholders in Damongo

Her Lordship Justice Abena Asuamah Oppong, Justice of High Court, Accra has noted that the main aim of the Judicial Service of Ghana’s outreach program across the 16 regions of Ghana is to educate the citizens about court processes and procedures.
Justice Abena Asuamah Oppong said it is good for the people of Ghana to know more about the court processes as the judicial service is envisioned to building the pillars of justice for the benefit of all stakeholders.

Justice Abena Asuamah Oppong said this during the Judicial Service Outreach Programme in Damongo on Tuesday September 17, 2024, at the community center.

Speaking to this source on the sidelines of the program, she said “the main aim of the programme is to educate the people about court processes and procedures. We have realized that court users (people who come to court) do not understand the laws, procedures and processes.
So occasionally we come to the community to educate them so that when they come to court they will appreciate what we do, this is the reason why we have come to the Savannah region of Ghana”.

Justices from the judicial service, NCCE officers, Mole National Park, West Gonja municipal assembly led by the MCE, the clergy, religious and traditional leaders, youth groups, Hon Assembly Members, artisans and a host of other stakeholders were brought together.
Participants and facilitators shared opinions and information and concerns raised were addressed by the Judicial Service and other officers.

Justice Abena Asuamah Oppong appealed to the public to take time to understand the processes. There are rules, people should read the rules and ask questions. The people should come to the law courts with their problems for legal advice and build trust in the Judicial system of Ghana, she stressed.

The Judicial Service Outreach Programme was held under the theme “improving justice delivery through community engagement”

The Hon MCE for West Gonja Municipality Musah Karim Kusubari in a welcome address, commended the service for reaching out to the people of the area and appealed to the citizens to work closely with the judicial service for well informed legal advice.

He commended the judicial service for initiating the community engagements. Adding “this initiative demonstrates your commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and collaboration”.
The initiative further shows the judicial service is poised to improve justice delivery through community engagement.

Other notable personalities led facilitation/discussions sessions during the programme.

H/L Justice Richard M. Kogyapwah (Supervising Judge, Savannah region) delivered the overview of the program.

Land acquisition processes in Ghana was delivered by Justice Abena Asuamah Oppong, Justice of the High Court, Accra

Place and types of marriage, inheritance, land acquisition, Probate, Wills, Spousal property rights, breach of promise to marry was led by H/L Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, Justice of the Court of Appeal,
Exposition on Civic Rights and Responsibilities of every citizen by Mohammed Ibrahim, Municipal Chief Director, NCCE, West Gonja municipality.
Exposition on district assembly by-laws by Chief Adam B. Mustapha (Municipal Coordinating Director, West Gonja)

The rest are bail with sureties and bail bands in focus, providing an understanding on the place of a surety as well as estreatment matters and PRCU by Justice Eric Kyei Baffour, Justice of the Court of Appeal.

Legal Aid and CCADR by Justice Abena Asuamah Oppong, Justice of the High Court, Accra.

The engagement provided a platform for questions and answers sessions.

Chief Tolodompewura Ahmed Abdallah (Chief Monor) chaired the programme.
