For nearly three decades, John Campion Yennukwah, popularly known as Hon. Zongo, has dedicated himself to the service and advancement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North East Region. From the branch level to the constituency and regional levels, Hon. Zongo has built his political career from the grassroots, giving him a deep understanding of the concerns, aspirations and expectations of party members.
His journey with the NDC dates back to 1996, when he served as a Branch Secretary from 1996 to 2000. He later became Constituency Deputy Youth Organizer from 2006 to 2010, where he played a role in mobilising and mentoring young people for the party. From 2010 to 2018, he served as Constituency Chairman, focusing on strengthening party structures, bringing members together and supporting the party’s electoral efforts.
Hon. Zongo’s experience also includes his role as a strategist during the 2009 Chereponi by-election. According to the campaign account, he was assigned an area of responsibility where he mobilised support that contributed to an NDC performance of about 90 percent in that area. He has also served as Vice Chairman of the Association of Former Constituency Executives of the North East Region, supporting parliamentary candidates and contributing to the party’s activities across the region.
A LEADER WHO BELIEVES IN UNITY
One of Hon. Zongo’s central messages is the need for unity within the NDC. His supporters point to his experience at the constituency level, where he worked to bring members together while strengthening party structures.
He advocates an inclusive approach that recognises the contribution of branch executives, constituency executives, party elders, youth, women and other stakeholders.
His engagements with traditional authorities, religious leaders and community members have also helped him build relationships beyond the immediate party structures.
For Hon. Zongo, the strength of the NDC depends on a strong and respected grassroots organisation. He believes that when party members feel heard, valued and included, the party becomes better positioned to work together towards its objectives.

The North East Region requires leadership with an understanding of the party from the grassroots upward. Hon. Zongo’s supporters believe his long service to the NDC has given him experience at different levels of party organisation and an appreciation of the challenges facing members across the region.
His campaign is therefore built around grassroots participation, unity, inclusiveness, effective mobilisation and strengthening the party’s structures.
As delegates prepare to make their choice, Hon. Zongo is presenting himself as a candidate whose political journey has been shaped by years of service to the party and engagement with its members.
He is appealing to party elders, delegates and stakeholders to support his bid to become NDC North East Regional Chairman, promising to work towards a stronger, more united and better-organised party in the region.
