Dr. Josephat Ana_lmwine, the Regional Director of health services in the Savannah Region has outlined several pressing challenges confronting the region’s healthcare services.
This was disclosed during the 2023 annual performance review meeting held at Damongo from the 20th – 21st March, 2024.
Despite notable progress, the region continues to grapple with significant hurdles, as highlighted by Dr. Josephat Ana_lmwine.
One of the primary concerns raised by Dr. Ana_lmwine is the shortage of medical professionals in the region. While strides have been made in improving the doctor-to-population ratio, the current number of physicians remains insufficient to meet the growing healthcare needs of the region.
Dr. Ana_lmwine emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts with regional and local authorities to attract more doctors through incentives such as accommodation and other benefits.
In addition to the shortage of medical personnel, inadequate transportation and infrastructure poses a significant challenge to the smooth operation of the Regional Health Directorate.
With only two serviceable vehicles out of a fleet of nine, navigating the vast expanse of the region proves to be a logistical challenge. Dr. Ana_lmwine urged stakeholders to provide support in acquiring additional vehicles to ensure efficient service delivery across the region.
Residential accommodation for healthcare staff emerged as another pressing issue highlighted by Dr. Ana_lmwine. The lack of suitable housing options for medical professionals hampers their ability to respond promptly to service calls, impacting the overall effectiveness of healthcare delivery.
The regional health also used the occasion to appeal to government officials and traditional authorities to assist in securing decent residential accommodation for healthcare staff, thus enabling them to better serve their communities.
Dr. Ana_lmwine further expressed optimism that collaborative efforts among stakeholders would lead to tangible solutions to these challenges, ultimately enhancing the quality and accessibility of healthcare services in the Savannah region.
