In a momentous event held by the Ghana Community Radio Network (GCRN), stakeholders, distinguished guests, and members gathered to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the “Leave No One – No Youth – Behind: Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” project.
The program was led by the Chairperson of the GCRN in Accra at Miklin Hotel from 20th to 22nd February.

The event served as a platform to reflect on the journey of the project and its profound impact on communities across Ghana since June 2022.

Over the past two years, the GCRN has been at the forefront of enhancing the localization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Ghana. Through strategic partnerships and grassroots initiatives, the network has championed youth empowerment and community development, emphasizing the importance of preserving cultural heritage and fostering sustainable development.

Acknowledging the invaluable contributions of key individuals, the Chair extended gratitude to Wilna Quarmyne, the GCRN coordinator, whose dedication and leadership were instrumental in steering the project towards success.

Additionally, recognition was given to Amos Katsekpor, whose visionary leadership laid the foundation for the initiative, and Freda Prigu, whose strategic guidance propelled the project to new heights.

The event coincided with International Mother Language Day, highlighting the significance of preserving and promoting linguistic diversity. Community radio stations, integral to the project’s success, have been instrumental in amplifying marginalized voices and fostering a sense of pride and belonging among communities. By communicating predominantly in local languages, these radio stations have ensured that messages resonate deeply with listeners, facilitating meaningful dialogue and understanding.

Reflecting on World Radio Day, the Chair underscored the pivotal role of radio in promoting dialogue, tolerance, and social change.

Community radio stations have served as catalysts for raising awareness about the SDGs, inspiring action, and empowering communities to actively participate in decision-making processes.

The success of the project has been attributed to collaborative efforts and community-led initiatives. Community Youth Task Teams (CYTTs) have played a central role in driving sustainable development through the implementation of Community Level Mini Project (CLMP). These project, showcased through community radio stations, have inspired others to take action and have had a tangible impact on the lives of community members.

Looking ahead, the GCRN remains committed to promoting the localization of the SDGs and fostering youth participation. By building on the achievements of the project, the network aims to create even greater impact and ensure that no one is left behind in Ghana’s journey towards sustainable development.

As the event concluded, attendees expressed gratitude to all members of the Ghana Community Radio Network, YFP, CYTTs, and dedicated broadcasters for their unwavering commitment and contributions. With renewed determination, stakeholders affirmed their commitment to continue working towards a more sustainable and inclusive future for all.

The meeting also offered opportunity for GCRN Council to elect new Council members to stir affairs of GCRN.
