(Sawla) – 43 out of the 47 Hon. Assembly Members in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district of the Savannah region have voted yes to confirmed President Akuffo-Addo’s nominee, Barkisu Losina Watara, as DCE, with four (4) other members voting no, in the process at the district’s conference hall on Wednesday, 6th October, 2021.
Hon Barkisu Losina thus, polled 91.49 percentage of the total valid votes cast to be the new DCE for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district assembly.
The Savannah regional minister, Saeed Muhazu Jibril in a short address admonished Hon. Barkisu Losina to work with all and do not listen to ‘naysayers’. Such people according to him, are “enemies of progress”.
“For you to succeed as a leader, you must virtually listen to everybody and don’t take everything into consideration especially, those who will come and tell you that party A, B, or C doesn’t like you. Those doing that are the ones who don’t like you. Those they come to destroy to you are, people who like you, get closer to them. Make your office a beautiful place for all to feel comfortable visiting”, stated.
Muhazu Jibril assured all Hon Assembly Members and the MP for the area that all memos presented to the table of the DCE will be attended to within one (1) week.
He urged those who voted “no” not to feel bad because it doesn’t mean they don’t like Barkisu Losina. “Don’t feel bad about it but the majority have spoken”, he added.
Muhazu Jibril disclosed that West Gonja and North East Gonja assemblies were rated among the 10 best assemblies in the country to have performed well in the Social Services sector. He assured that he will work closely with all MDCEs to execute president Akuffo-Addo’s agenda.
Hon Barkisu Losina Watara expressed gratitude to God, the president, traditional and religious leaders, national, regional and constituency executives of NPP for the confidence reposed in her. She promised to work openly with all Hon Assembly Members because she is going to run a transparent administration.
The NPP Nasara Coordinator for the Savannah region added that she will work to attract private sector developers and other valuable stakeholders to help develop the district.
The MP for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency, Dari Chiwitey appealed to the new DCE and the Coordinating Director to promptly attend to his memos as soon as possible to help develop the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district. He assured that he will work hand in hand with her to get the area develop.
He however lamented that for the past four (4) years the constituency has seen least development in the region and therefore, called on the NPP government to channelled resources to the area for development.
