Mrs. Vida Atchulo-Gomnah, an alumnus of Damongo Senior High School ( DASS) in the Savannah Region of Ghana, has made a generous donation of 4 Summer-Huts worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to her alma mater.
Her gesture is expected to have a positive impact on the students and staff of the school, providing them with practical benefits such as protection from the sun’s rays and keeping them cool during hot weather, thus allowing them to study without hindrances.
Madam Gifty Salamatu Atchulo (a.k.a Matron), an elder sister to Mrs Vida Atchulo-Gomnah and Madam Sandra Sadia Alhassan donated the huts on her behalf. Madam Gifty emphasized that the gesture reflects Vida’s care and concern for the well-being of the current students and the school as a whole and therefore hoping that her act of giving back will inspire others to follow suit, fostering a positive cycle of support and camaraderie among the alumni.
The headmistress of DASS, Madam Mercy Aluba Ewuntomah, expressed her gratitude to Mrs Vida Atchulo-Gomnah for her thoughtful gesture and highlighted that Vida’s actions showcases the lasting impact that educational institutions can have on individuals and their desire to give back in appreciation for the opportunities received.
Mrs. Vida Atchulo-Gomnah’s connection to Damongo Senior High School dates back to her enrollment in 1988 until she completed her GCE “O” level in 1993.
She was known for her athletic achievements and had set records in the 800 meters, 1500 meters, and 3000 meters events.
Additionally, it’s mentioned that she attended Tamale Senior High School (Tamasco) for her “A” level education before relocating to the United States of America, specifically Portland, Oregon to further her education.
It’s also worth noting that a similar act of generosity was extended by Mrs Vida Atchulo-Gomnah to Tamale Senior High School a few weeks after her donation to Mother Dass, indicating her commitment to giving back to the educational institutions that played a significant role in her life.
