North America GLYA branch pays courtesy call on Yagbonwura, donates talking drums to his palace.

Some executives of the North America branch of the Gonjaland Youth Association led by Mr. Asumah Fala Saaka(organizer), Osman Baba ( treasurer), Seidu Douglas(secretary) and a New York branch organizer of the association ( Mr. Seidu Lanzari) in the company of the National secretary, Madam Felicia Kraja and the Damongo branch chairman ( Hon. Sumani Seidu ) on Sunday, 30th July, 2023 paid a courtesy call on the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I at Damongo.

The visit according to the team was for them to pay homage to their father (the king) since the were not able to physically take part in his enskinment processes and to present to him talking drums locally known as “Atumpani” and a Royal Regalia to aid the kings cultural and traditional activities.

In their interaction with the king, the team praised the king for his leadership style and assured him of their commitment to support him in his reign as king for the Gonja people.

They explained that though far from home, the still hold the development and matters of the Kingdom at heart and will at all times collaborate with the local executives of the Gonjaland Youth Association to brainstorm towards supporting the Kingdom’s culture, traditions and development.

They also expressed concern at the rate at which traditional matters in the kingdom are being taken to court and therefore appealed to the king and all the chiefs in the Gonja kingdom to find ways of preserving traditional matters and land disputes.

They added that, the kingdom should collaboratively utilize it’s existing chieftancy structures to solve problems within the kingdom to avoid legal battles among themselves.

They also expressed worry over how lands belonging to the kingdom are being taken by other tribes and therefore making an appeal to all chiefs enskinned to supersee their communities should endeavor to visit the communities regularly to abreast themselves with the challenges faced by the people to avert land disputes in the kingdom.

The king who bought into the concerns raised by the team expressed graritude to them for the visit and the presents given to him.

He assured them of his readiness to protect their lands and appealed to them to take advantage of the arable lands in the kingdom and venture into agriculture or industrialisation for the kingdom’s future growth.
