Catholic faithful of the Martyrs of Uganda Parish in Bole in the Savannah region of Ghana on Sunday 9th May, 2021 celebrated mother’s day amidst pomp and pageantry. The event was colorful with mothers decked in mother’s Union and women guilde attires.
Mother’s day is celebrated every year the world over as a sign of recognizing and appreciating the work, care and love of mothers. Mothers impact knowledge and are the pivots arround which many households revolve. Their contributions to the well-being of society are immense.
This year’s celebration in Bole was preceeded by a Eucharistic celebration (mass). In a sermon to mark the day, an assistant priest of the Martyrs of Uganda Parish, Rev. Fr Fulgence Dongkore charged Christians to show love, respect and gratitude to mothers and to all mother figures for their enormous contribution towards family building. He also called upon mothers to be good examples of motherhood in their homes and work places as they are carriers of God’s image. He offered special prayers for all mothers.
The youth of the Parish also presented a Goodwill message to all mothers, acknowledging the hard work, tenacity and sacrifices they make. According to the youth, mothers are worth celebrating every day. They prayed fervently to God to grant many more years of good health, love and understanding to all mothers. As a sign of appreciation for all the sacrifices mothers make, they presented packets of chocolate to all mothers and mother figures present for the occasion.
Fathers/ husbands on the other hand bought White handkerchiefs ranging from GHC 10.00 to GHC 500.00 for their wives as a sign of love and appreciation.
Other activities for the day were outlined, some of which were; volleyball, football, tag of peace, and ampe. The activities were carried out amidst eating, drinking and dancing. It was all fun.
