Bingorwura Samuel Shaibu Adam , a sub-chief in the Wasipe Division of Gonjaland, has officially filed his nomination to contest for the position of Savannah Regional Representative on Ghana’s Council of State.

Speaking after submitting his nomination, Chief Adam emphasized his vision of transforming the role from a mere ceremonial position into an active and results-driven advisory body. He stressed that the Council of State plays a crucial constitutional role in advising the President and government on critical national matters and should not be reduced to a symbolic entity.
“I am contesting because I want to make a difference,” he stated. “Many see the Council of State as a place where people just dress nicely and sit, but I see it as an opportunity to bring real change to our region.”

The Savannah Region, one of Ghana’s youngest regions, faces numerous developmental challenges despite its vast resources. Chief Adam highlighted his commitment to leveraging the Council of State position to work with the Regional Minister, the Gonjaland Youth Association, traditional authorities, and other stakeholders to drive development in the region.

With the current administration being led by a native of the region, he stressed the urgency of making the most of the opportunity. “This is a window of just four years. If we don’t maximize it, we may have to wait for generations to get another chance,” he cautioned.
Among his key priorities, should he be elected, is spearheading the development of a Strategic Development Plan for the Savannah Region. He noted that, under the current system, development projects are handled by district assemblies in isolation, often leading to inconsistencies and inefficiencies.
“What I will push for is a comprehensive, coordinated regional development plan—one that brings all stakeholders together to ensure structured and sustainable growth,” he explained.
He also highlighted the potential of the Savannah Region’s vast but underutilized land for large-scale agriculture. Given that Ghana spends over $500 million annually on importing tomatoes and onions from neighboring countries, Chief Adam believes Savannah could become a national agricultural powerhouse.
“If we channel resources into large-scale commercial farming, we can tackle unemployment and food insecurity while reducing reliance on imports,” he said.
Chief Samuel Shaibu Adam’s candidacy presents a vision of transformation for the Savannah Region, as he seeks to redefine the role of the Council of State and ensure it delivers tangible benefits to the people. His campaign will now enter the crucial phase of rallying support from local stakeholders ahead of the election.
