Speaking with Newsmen on Monday, 18th September, 2023 during a visit to Doli in the Bole District to assess the extend of damage caused to the Bole-Wa road as a result of the collapsed Doli bridge, Mr. Saeed Muhazu Jibriel, the Savannah Regional Minister conveyed his commitment to addressing the current Doli Bridge cut-off issue, emphasising his collaboration with relevant authorities to find a prompt solution.

Mr. Jibriel disclosed that his office, in conjunction with the Upper West Regional Minister is engaged in discussions with the Minister of Roads and the Chief Director of the Ministry to swiftly resolve the problem.

He expressed deep concern regarding the disruption caused by the recent heavy rains to travelers and commuters using the Bole-Wa road, which connects the southern part of Ghana to the Upper West Region.

Mr. Jibriel highlighted that while minor repairs have been undertaken on the Doli Bridge since its construction in 1993, significant renovations have been neglected, resulting in the current situation.

He underscored the necessity of addressing the extensive damage to ensure safe passage for commuters and travelers.

Mr. Jibriel acknowledged that given the extent of the damage, immediate repairs on the main bridge may not be feasible. However, as an interim measure, they plan to create a diversion when the water recedes to ease the burden on passengers and motorists traveling from Techiman through Kintampo, Fufulso, and Damongo, rejoining the main road at Sawla.

Mr. Jibriel further cautioned canoe owners assisting with crossings, urging them not to ferry passengers without life jackets and after 5 pm, as this could jeopardize lives.

He revealed that there are ongoing discussions with Zoom Lion and NADMO to provide life jackets for safe transportation across the damaged bridge and also assured that they would enhance security measures at the site to protect lives and property.

Hon. Habib Bin Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister also expressed his concern about the severe impact of the situation and emphasized the critical role of the road in connecting the Upper West Region to the southern part of the country.

He affirmed his collaboration with the Savannah Regional Minister, the Minister of Roads, and the Chief Director to expedite a solution.

At the time of the visit, three people involving two males and one female almost got drowned due to the bad nature of the canoes being used to cross passengers.
