The West Gonja Municipal Education directorate in savannah region has received Ghc 80,000 financial support from the Member of Parliament (MP) for Damongo Constituency, Hon Samuel Abu Jinapor as part of his annual contributions to organize extra classes and mock exams for this years BECE candidates to prepare them for their final year examinations.
The amount was presented to the Municipal Education Director on behalf of the MP by the Mr Bawa Fuseini together with the constituency deputy organizer and communications officer, Mr. Iddrisu Laminu on Friday 19th May 2023.
Mr. Bawa Fuseini indicated that, education is one of the major campaign message of Hon. Abu Jinapor prior to his election as MP for the Damongo Constituency in 2020 and has since election, taken upon himself to change the narrative following the poor results that is been recorded in the Municipality.
He said the gesture by the Damongo Lawmaker is done annually to reduce the burden on parents as the candidates will be taken through free extra classes coupled with mock examinations put together by the Municipal Education Directorate including the writing, marking and going though the papers with the candidates after the marking all at a cost fully taken by the MP.
He added that, the Damongo Constituency MP has pledged to change the narrative of education in the constituency and will make sure he supports the course in ensuring the directorate at all times is doing their best for the welfare of students in the constituency.
The West Gonja Municipal Director of Education, Mr Akey Ferguson thanked the MP for all that he has been doing to help improve on education in the municipality.
Mr Ferguson indicated that, the continues support from the MP for the past 3 years is really helping the course of education in the municipality adding that, before the intervention of the MP, the past rate in the year 2020 was 18.6% which has jumped appreciably to 36% following his intervention.
He indicated that, the support from the MP will be duly used for it’s intended purposes and on behalf of the Municipal Education Directorate thanked the MP for all that he has been doing for them.
Mr B.Y. Abdulai, Chairman for the Collation Of Basic Schools (COBS) who is the head of all Basic schools headteachers in the West Gonja Municipality in his speech outlined how the money is going to be used to prepare the candidates for the examination.
He said, the MP has been supportive to not only students but also to Teachers which is yielding the results many are witnessing today and also on behalf of his colleagues thanked the MP for always doing his best to improve the performance of education in the Municipality.
