Damongo Community centre and matters arising.

Some sections of the youth in the Damongo constituency are not happy with the nature and manner in which the newly built Damongo community center is fixed.

According to them, there is an existing conference hall at the Savannah regional coordinating council where conferences and meetings are held and so, there was no need to have fixed furniture at the new community center similar to that of the RCC conference hall.

The said, industry and entertainment pundits in the constituency should have been consulted to make inputs that would have led to the construction of a facility that would have served the purposes of both entertainment and conferences at the facility rather than putting up what will not serve the interest of the youth who agitated for the facility.

As it stands, the new community center can only serve the purposes of only staged based events and conferences and not entirely what the youth were yearning for.

Also, the youth per some agitations on a WhatsApp platform ” Savannah-Gonja Music” by several entertainment pundits are requesting that the facility be managed by industry players who understands their plight in the entertainment industry instead of handing it over to politicians.

They are also unhappy that only two Gonjaland based artistes are billed to perform at the facility on Sunday, 14th May, 2023, a day set for the official commissioning of the facility.

The Commissioning Of “Damongo Community Centre” In Perspective – Wounded Mohammed Kamil Akunatu

Is understood that community centres aren’t meant for only entertainment purposes but to my knowledge the issue of the damongo community centre came in to play after a body of entertainment personals and music industry players came to agitate for a conducive environment for entertainment.

Thank God it got to the Member of Parliament for damongo and with a good consideration he decided to give us one to manage though we said “it wasn’t of standard and was looking like pentecost church” yet it will replace what damongo never had a privilege to have.

But the fact that we are hungry for a community centre and a said political party is giving us one doesn’t mean it should be done anyhow.

Please and please I beg on political individuals to involve and handover the place to an entertainment minded person so it can serve the “purpose the youth wer agitating for”. Not everything coming from a political party should be managed by politically minded people and if it should be, I suggest there are entertainment minds also following the party so let them also take control of this side. With this I refer all to sound systems that were brought by our hardworking Honourable Lawyer Abu Jinapor to damongo but leaders refuse to recognise who could take proper care of this sound system and kept onto their watch and now if I may ask where is the said sound system! the system was totally mismanaged

So l ask👇

1. Who is responsible in organisation for the Community Centre to be commissioned?
2. Have they taken into consideration contacting some entertainment or industry players to see how best the opening of this Community centre can help in addressing the conducive grounds the youth agitated for?
3. Or they say the community centre won’t serve entertainment purposes for the youths
4. Looking at the inside which is arranged like a “church” as earlier purported by the youths, i don’t think it should have been arranged in that manner like that of RCC conference hall. It could be arranged differently from that of RCC conference room such that some official meetings and conferences be held there and the yet to be commissioned community centre be arranged in a way it can take both entertainment and conferences 🤷‍♂️.

With due respect, political minds are different from entertainment minds which l think the politicals shouldn’t clinch to the space of this said community centre but put it in the hands of entertainment personals though can be monitored by the “politicals”🤷‍♂️, Abeg no selfishness and greed in this case
