On Monday 15th March, 2021, the new hon. Savannah regional minister, Saeed Jibril Muhazu alias Jegede, took over the management of the region at a colourful ceremony held at the RCC conference hall, Damongo.
Mr Saeed Muhazu in an address expressed gratitude to God, the President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, the King of Gonja, Yagbonwura Tutumba Bore Esa (I) and people of Gonjaland for their efforts in the creation of the region and the opportunity given him to serve his people and assured that his will work closely with all stakeholders to help fast track development in the region.
Mr. Saeed Muhazu promised to keep his doors opened to sons and daughters of the region and to people outside for ideas and support to achieve more for the region.
Mr. Saeed Muhazu also promised to continue with all the ongoing projects started by his predecessor and the RCC and thanked the Regional Coordinating Director, Alhaji Adams Mohammed and the RCC staff for the smooth transition from the ex regional minister Adam Braimah Salifu to him.
He explained that with the experience gained during the last four (4) years as the Municipal Chief Executive ( MCE) for the West Gonja municipality he will run smooth and all inclusive administration in his new office.
Savannah region is one of the six (6) newly created regions by the NPP administration in February 2019 but one of the least developed regions in the country ranging from roads, electricity, water supply among others.
Mr. Saeed Muhazu said he will use his good office to connect well with the outside world to bring development home.
Roads construction, schools, health, provision of water, employment creation among others are what the new minister is expected to improve upon.
Controversially, Mr. Saeed Muhazu rated himself as the best MCE for the West Gonja municipality under the 4th republic during his time as the MCE and pledged to continue with the good works as a regional minister. He said he has witnessed the performances of all DCEs/MCEs in the past and comparing achievements with him as the MCE to the rest, he is the best MCE to have led the West Gonja municipality. These achievements he said, will motivate him to push for more developmental projects to ensure the region gets its fair share of the national cake.
He promised to tackle the illegal logging and commercial charcoal production with the seriousness it deserves and said by 15th April, 2021, the operation to stop the menace will start in Damongo and it’s environs.
He acknowledged the role played by the NPP Damongo Constituency Executives, the MMDCEs, the regional Chairman and his executives, and other important stakeholders leading to the President nominating him as the regional minister and his subsequent approval.
Mr. Saeed Muhazu called on the public to put all hands on desk to help the RCC deliberate on the numerous challenges facing the Savannah region.
The former assistant headmaster in charge of academic for Ndewura Jakpa SHS will play a supervisory role as the acting DCE for North East Gonja district and MCE for West Gonja Municipal assembly all in the Savannah region.
The immediate past Savannah regional Minister and former Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Adam Braimah Salifu ( Uncle Sally) thanked the President, the Yagbonwura, the Regional Coordinating Director, the RCC staff, the NPP faithfuls and the public for their support during his period as the minister.
He said it wasn’t an easy task to nurse the baby region but with their support, his administration chalked a lot of success ranging from roads construction in the capital through to the North Gonja district, East Gonja municipality, North East Gonja, Central and other parts of the region.
Provision of water to some districts across the region and the famous Damongo water project. He said it was his wish to see workers working on the Damongo water project but due to some administrative issues, his wish couldn’t materialize. He is however still optimistic that the water project will soon be executed by the current NPP administration.
As the first regional minister, Mr. Salifu Adam Braimah congratulated the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Tutumba Bore Esa (I) for his role in the creation of the Savannah region and also thanked the Paramount chiefs and sons and daughters of Gonjaland for their immense contribution.
He appealed to the new minister to continue to dialogue with the leaders and stakeholders to continue from where he left off.
On his part the former deputy regional minister Samuel Yeyu Tika expressed gratitude to the chiefs and people of the region, the President, the NPP and the public for the beautiful support offered them during the two years in office and said the President didn’t sack them from duty but only asks another set to continue with the job. He assured that he and his ex boss are available to support the new minister.
He called on all to remain confident and support the NPP administration to deliver on it’s promises.
Citations were presented to the ex minister and his deputy for their selfless service to the region.
The short ceremony was attended by the Regional Coordinating Director, the Police Commander,. MMDCEs, the NPP regional Chairman and executives.
Heads of departments, security agencies, religious leaders, traditional leaders, constituency NPP executives among others were also in attendance.
