The Savannah Regional Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for inclusiveness, equal opportunity and fairness in the Partyโs upcoming parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 General Elections.
The call follows concerns over alleged exclusion and limited participation of members of the Brifo community in the recent constituency-level elections in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency.
In a press statement signed by the Savannah Regional Secretary, Mr. Seidu Ayuba, on behalf of the Regional Party, the NPP reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, insisting that every eligible member must have an equal opportunity to contest for parliamentary leadership, irrespective of ethnic, tribal, geographical or social background.
The statement noted that the National Party’s invitation to prospective parliamentary candidates to declare their intentions between November 1 and 10, 2026, provides an important opportunity to strengthen internal democracy and broaden participation in the Party’s candidate-selection process.
It therefore encouraged all interested and eligible party members to take advantage of the declaration window and formally express their intentions to contest the parliamentary primaries.
The Regional Party stressed that participation in the primaries must not be influenced or restricted by a prospective candidate’s ethnic or geographical background, adding that the selection process must be guided by fairness, transparency, established party procedures and the democratic choice of delegates.
Addressing concerns surrounding the Brifo community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency, the statement acknowledged the sentiments arising from the alleged exclusion and called for the issues to receive appropriate attention to ensure that every member feels recognised, respected and adequately represented within the Party.
It further urged party officers, constituency executives and other stakeholders to discharge their responsibilities impartially while promoting tolerance, reconciliation and mutual respect throughout the process.
According to the statement, the upcoming parliamentary primaries should serve as an opportunity to consolidate the Party’s structures and strengthen unity rather than become a platform for ethnic competition, division or the continuation of grievances from previous internal elections.
The Savannah Regional NPP maintained that the Party’s motto, “Development in Freedom,” must be reflected in its internal democratic practices through the protection of individual liberty, equal opportunity and democratic choice.
As the Party prepares towards the 2028 General Elections, it emphasised that unity, discipline, fairness and respect for the legitimate political aspirations of members would be crucial to building an electorally competitive NPP in the region.
The statement concluded with a strong appeal to party members to place the collective interest of the NPP above individual and sectional considerations, declaring:
“A UNITED NPP IS A STRONG NPP, AN INCLUSIVE NPP IS A WINNING NPP IN 2028.”
