An 800 cabin capacity mortuary facility of the Mount Olives hospital in Techiman, the Bono East Regional capital has been opened for public patronage.
The facility, was established to deal with the preservation, beautification and transport of dead bodies in the hospital and other health facilities in the Bono east region and beyond.
Dr Gladstone Kessie, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mount Olives hospital in an interview with the press on Tuesday in Techiman said the facility would ease the pressure on the limited mortuaries in the region.
The CEO disclosed that the edifice had plans to additionally attach to the mortuary, a chapel, restaurant, private cemetery, recreational center and accommodation facilities among others in order to make the place a tourist attraction.
He said the morgue has an executive standard cabins, Very Important Personality (VIP) cabins and VVIP cabins for comfort and proper preservation of dead bodies before their burial.
Dr Kessie noted that the facility which was full of modern equipments rendered embalmment, storage, beautification and transport of dead bodies to places far and near to both local and foreign clients.
He implored residents to honour the dead with dignity before their burial adding that “the dead were once like the living and everyone will die someday”.
Dr Kessie noted that the 70 – bed Mount Olives hospital which was founded in 2012 and provided services namely internal medication, eye and dental care, X – ray , laboratory and maternal delivery services, was in urgent need of a mortuary facility.
The General Manager (GM) of Mount Olives hospital mortuary, Mr Prosper Swanzey said the safety , health and environmental protocols of the facility were not compromised and that the facility operated under strict international standards.
Mr Swanzey noted that the modern equipments used at the mortuary in addition to professional and experienced morticians and good customer services had projected the mortuary to a first class facility.
Later, Dr Kessie thanked the Paramount Chief of Techiman traditional council, Oseadieyo Akumfi Ameyaw IV, professor Seth Ayittey, the former head of the Anatomy unit of university of Ghana, the chiefs and people of Tanoso, staff and clients of the hospital for supporting his vision.
The CEO advised the general public to strictly adhere to the safety measures of the novel corona virus pandemic in all endeavours until the country recorded a zero number.
