NPP Blasts President Mahama’s Savannah Region Tour as “A Storytelling Tour Wrapped in Lies and Deceit”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a scathing statement condemning President John Dramani Mahama’s recent visit to the Savannah Region, describing it as a hollow political stunt lacking substance and riddled with misinformation.

In a strongly worded release, copied to this source by the Regional secretary of the party Mr. Mohammed Issah on Monday, 16th June, 2025, the NPP accused President Mahama of attempting to rewrite history and take undue credit for key infrastructural projects that were conceptualized, funded, and commenced under the erstwhile Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia administration.

Ongoing Bridge works at Daboya

The statement labeled Mahama’s tour as a “boisterous yet boringly rhetorical visit,” accusing him of demonstrating the same neglectful attitude that allegedly characterized his previous leadership roles as MP, Minister, Vice President, and President.

According to the NPP, President Mahama’s comments about securing funds for ongoing bridge projects in Daboya, Yapei, and Buipe were deceptive and misleading. The party asserted that all financial arrangements and construction activities for these projects had already been completed under the NPP government through a commercial contract with QGMI Construcciones e Infraestructuras Globales S.L.U, backed by a €97.7 million Export Credit Agency facility arranged by Standard Chartered Bank.

“It is laughable and disingenuous for a sitting President to suggest that he is now seeking funds for projects that are already fully financed and physically underway,” the statement read.

The NPP also took issue with claims about the Mpaha-Bunjai road project, categorically denying its existence and calling it “a myth.” The party contrasted this with ongoing NPP-initiated projects such as the Daboya-Mankargu-Fumbisi road—which they say is nearing completion—and the Bunjai-Yapei road that links the eastern and western parts of the region.

The party cited structural reports on the deteriorating conditions of the old Yapei and Buipe bridges, constructed in 1964, to justify the urgency behind the NPP’s decision to build new ones. According to engineers, the old bridges have exceeded their useful life, with visible cracks, loss of protective coatings, and exposure of reinforcement bars—all of which threaten public safety.

The release also challenged the Mahama administration to focus on completing several critical projects that are already in motion, including:
• The three new bridges at Daboya, Yapei, and Buipe
• The Daboya-Mankargu-Wiaga-Mempeasem road
• The Bunjai-Yapei and Wa-Sawla-Bole-Wenchi asphalting roads
• The Salaga-Kpandai and Salaga-Bimbila road networks
• The Tuna-Jang road
• The Agenda 111 hospitals in Kpalbe and Daboya, along with the Salaga District Hospital
• The Broto Water Project in Damongo

The NPP warned against any attempts by the current administration to “steal projects” for political capital, urging President Mahama to rise above “incoherent propaganda” and focus on genuine development delivery.

The statement further reminded the President that governance is a serious mandate, not a theatrical exercise. “The time for blabbing and shouting propaganda is far gone. They are in government with the mandate of the people and must get their loins to work.”
