On July 13, 2024, the Damongo Senior High School (Dass) Assembly Hall was abuzz with activity as Singles and Young Adults Incorporated (SAYA Inc.) held a comprehensive youth development program. The event, aimed at fostering a sense of community, promoting healthy lifestyles, and encouraging leadership among the youth, was attended by students, chiefs, and community members.
The program brought together speakers from various fields to address critical issues facing the youth. Reverend Jerry John Mensah, Senior Pastor of Light House, spoke passionately about the impact of decisions and choices on the future. His message resonated deeply with the audience, emphasizing the long-term effects of the choices they make today.
Madam Seidu Latifa, the Savannah Regional Girls’ Education Officer, tackled gender issues, highlighting the importance of education and equal opportunities for young women. Her speech encouraged female students to pursue their education with determination and not to succumb to societal pressures.
Madam Adam Sadia, a midwife, focused on health issues, particularly the misuse of emergency contraceptives among the youth. She stressed the health risks associated with frequent use and urged the students to make informed and responsible choices regarding their sexual health.
The program also included a medical outreach component, where students, chiefs, and community members received free health screenings from SAYA’s medical team. This initiative aimed to promote physical well-being and early detection of potential health issues.
As Ghana approaches elections 2024, Bonbowurche Menwnato Gado, the organizer for the Savanna Region Queen Mothers Association, emphasizes the need for peace and unity during and after elections. She urged the youth not to be swayed by political differences and to maintain harmony within their communities.
The President of SAYA Mrs. Christiana Selormey Lartey, in her speech, underscored the organization’s mission to guide and support the youth in making informed choices. she highlighted the rampant issues of drug abuse and the misuse of contraceptives in the community and stressed the importance of proper guidance and mentorship.
“Our goal is to groom the youth to become better people in society,” said the SAYA President. “We want them to realize that every decision they make today can significantly impact their future. We are here to guide them, just as others guided us.”
She also called for more resources and funding to sustain and expand such initiatives, emphasizing the role of everyone in the community in fostering development and progress.
“Development is the responsibility of everyone, not just one person,” the SAYA President stated. “Together, we can make the impossible possible. We strive on Revival, Restoration, and Receiving every blessing God has for us to build self-dependence in this walk of faith.”
The SAYA Inc. youth development program in Damongo was a resounding success, leaving a lasting impact on the participants. The organization plans to continue its efforts to support and guide the youth, ensuring a brighter future for the community and the nation.
