His Royal Majesty Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the King and Overlord of the Gonja-Kingdom has formally blessed Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana and the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), declaring him a “son of Gonjaland” and endorsing his presidential aspirations.
During a House of Chiefs meeting held in Damongo, the capital of the Savannah Region, Yagbonwura expressed his unwavering support for Dr. Bawumia, recognizing his loyalty and commitment to the Gonja Kingdom over the years.
The Vice President, who is currently on a nationwide tour, received a warm welcome in Damongo, with the city adorned in NPP colors in celebration of his visit.
“You are a son of Gonjaland and you have my blessings to be President,” the Yagbonwura proclaimed. He added, “I as the overlord of Gonjaland accept you as a son of this land; you are my son and from today, consider yourself as a son of Gonjaland. You are a Gonja. You served me even when I was at Tuluwe and you continue to serve me to date. I assure you of my blessings and support as the overlord of Gonja.”
Dr. Bawumia’s tour of the Savannah Region also included meetings with key stakeholders, including the clergy, where he outlined his vision for the region and the country.
He sought the support and prayers of all, particularly the clergy, for his presidential journey.
Widely regarded as the most effective Vice President in Ghana’s Fourth Republic, Dr. Bawumia has been instrumental in numerous digitalization initiatives under President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration.
His accomplishments include:
Digitalization of the DVLA office
Implementation of the Motor Insurance Database
Digitalization of Birth and Death registration
Overhauling the Scholarship Secretariat’s application process
Launch of the Ghana Gov. platform
Digitalization at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), significantly increasing monthly revenue
Introduction of Tax Identification Numbers (TIN) to boost domestic revenue
Streamlining the tax filing process through digitalization
Deployment of medical drones
Modernization of operations at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA)
Dr. Bawumia’s reception in the Savannah Region reflects a strong endorsement from the local populace, who view his leadership as a continuation of progress and development.
The region’s residents express their desire to avoid regressing to previous administrations, favoring instead the forward-looking leadership exemplified by Dr. Bawumia.
