The youth have been advised to use appropriate roots when traveling abroad, in order to safeguard their safety.

The Bono East Regional Coordinator of the Media Migrant Network (MMN), an NGO,Mr Emmanuel Korsah, in an interview with reporters on Wednesday in Techiman, said the unapproved paths have dire consequences.

He indicated that a lot of people especially the youth, use unauthorised paths to travel overseas namely the desert and the Mediterranean sea, which had caused the death of many young Africans.

” The MMN encourages that, before anyone decides to travel abroad, the person must use the embassy to acquire the necessary documents , proceed to the airport to board their flight to the destination” Mr Korsah told Journalists.

Mr Korsah noted that traveling to Europe and other foreign countries with good purposes namely educational advancement, job , vacation and invitation by family and friends among others was welcomed.

According to the Regional Coordinator, most of the young persons in the country, especially the Bono East region had traveled to Europe and other African countries without purpose and mission.

Mr Korsah noted that most travellers, who wanted to seek greener pastures overseas had no accommodation, place of work, contact persons and travelling documents at their destinations saying that this is worrying.

According to the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), he disclosed, 70 per cent of refugees under the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR), were women and children.

Mr Korsah further told the pressmen that, the MMN provided young Africans with reliable information and training, on migration issues and to make informed decisions and be aware of safer migration options abroad.

The Community Representative for Techiman,Mr Philip Yaw Okyere, said the MMN promoted youth entrepreneurship at home, building economic and social resilience and encouraged the youth to create opportunities and work within their communities.

Mr Okyere told reporters that, the network sensitised youth groups in the Bono East region, in communities namely Nkwaeso, Fiaso, Krobo, Twumia, Asikafoamatem and Aworowa among others.

A Returnee, Mr Kwadwo Louise who was imprisoned and maltreated in Libya for seven years, for using the desert, admonished the youth to focus on employable skills for a brighter future saying that “we can make it in Ghana”.
