Good evening
Ladies and Gentlemen of our dear country,
The leadership of the NDC after extensive consultation and detailed analysis of what we strongly consider to be a flawed and discredited election has resolved to outrightly reject the results of the 2020 presidential elections as announced by the Chair of the Electoral Commission.
We also wish to serve notice that the blatant efforts to undermine our parliamentary majority will be fiercely resisted.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The sterling democratic credentials of our Flagbearer and Leader, H.E. John Dramani Mahama is widely known and globally acknowledged. His conduct in the aftermath of the 2016 election continues to be commended. It is worth adding that as a party that birthed this present Fourth Republic which is indisputably the most successful Republic, we have and continue to cherish our shared interest in preserving our democratic trajectory.
This evening Ghana’s democracy has come under severe attack and must be rescued with urgency. If not rescued, this attack will fester into future elections, undermine and disfigure our track record as a truly democratic nation that believes in free, fair and transparent elections.
It is terribly unfortunate that a formal petition to the EC today detailing our concerns was treated with contempt.
This evening’s declaration by the EC also smacks of bad faith particularly when the EC Chair had sent a delegation of our party representatives to the NDC Flagbearer only to hurriedly make her announcement when the delegation was well on their way.
Let us be clear, overwhelming evidence available to us makes it impossible for the NDC to accept this spurious and hurried conclusion of the Electoral Commission.
We are thankful to the good people of Ghana including the rank and file of our party who despite being at the receiving end of the impunity of this Government over the last four years coupled with the brute force of the past few days voted massively and convincingly for the NDC and have continued to resist oppressors rule.
Our appeal to you is that do not despair.
We appreciate and value your support and efforts. We will ensure that your votes count. The results, as, declared will not stand.
We intend to take decisive and concrete steps both with the Presidential and Parliamentary results to overturn this brazen and shameless attack on the fledgling democracy of our beloved country.
Unfortunately, this is being done with the connivance of the Electoral Commission and some armed thugs who have been parading as members of Ghana’s revered security agencies.
On some occasions these thugs in uniform in their quest to overturn election results in favour of Nana Akufo-Addo and his party, have shot, maimed and killed innocent citizens of our dear Republic as we all witnessed in Techiman South, Savelugu, Odododiodioo, Upper Denkyira West, Sefwi Wiaso and other constituencies. We know we won Techiman South and the other so-called disputed constituencies with a convincing margin – their machinations will not prevail.
We pray the good Lord bestows his best blessings on our nation, console the bereaved families, heal those who have sustained various degrees of wounds during this election and receive the souls of the dead in his bosom.
Under no circumstance should our beautiful country have lost any life – not even one – and maimed innocent citizens in the name of choosing our next President and Members of Parliament. Election is about counting heads not cutting heads. Sad and unfortunate.
Stay safe and be assured that the spurious declaration of the 2020 Presidential election results by the Electoral Commission of Ghana will not stand.
It remains an attack on Ghana’s democracy – and also a blot on the conscience of the perpetrators. It must be resisted and uprooted.
For emphasis, let me repeat, we roundly reject the declaration of the sitting President as the winner of the 2020 Presidential election and refuse to accord him any such recognition.
Our Flagbearer will in due course address the nation and the international community.
God bless our nation, Ghana.
Thank you.
