The St. Cathedral School in the west Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region has observed this year’s Catholic education week celebrations with a grand darbur held at the schools premises.
The week long celebration which was coupled with series of activities was climaxed on Friday, 3rd February, 2023 saw the attendance of students, parents, PTA executives and some stakeholders in the education sector.
In a welcome address, the savannah regional Catholic education Manager, Mr. Raphael Lieber explained that the Catholic education week is a day set aside for co-curricular activities and also serves as an avenue where all stakeholders concern in the education sector come together to share ideas on the development of education in the area.
He further explained that though the church existed to evangelize and propagate the mission of the church, it has in it’s evangelization carried out series of human development projects that has helped develop the human person completely.
He also said the church’s local Manager is focused on developing the human spiritually, physically, economically, emotionally and psychological so as to get a well developed person for the society adding that the church develops the human minds, heart and the physical being of every one by offering them sound, affordable and quality education.
The administrator for the St. Anne’s cathedral church and Local Manager for the Catholic education unit, Rev. Fr. Felix Kuulaare in a key note address on behalf of the Bishop for the Damongo Diocese expressed gratitude to all parents and teachers of the St. Anne’s Cathedral School and to all stakeholders who are making efforts to collaborate with the church to improve on the best of education.
He explained that, the Catholic Church all over the world places a lot of emphasizes not just on the holistic training of the human beings but also in physical structures which equally plays a lot of emphancies in the enhancement of education in which regard, the are putting up more structures through donor supports to enable them admitted more children into the Catholic schools.
He noted that parents will be the direct beneficiaries of the schools if their children are given the good and well training at the foundational stage and if they are unable to take good care of them, they will be the same people to turn against them, seeing them as negligent and irresponsible parents by not doing the needful in their education.
He also explained how they work day in and out as a church to source for donor support to improve on infrastructural development to enhance quality teaching and learning in the region.
He admonished parents to from time to time visit the schools to know here their children are attending school and also enable them have information on how they are doing in his/her classroom.
Deputy Regional Director of education in charge Supervision, Mr. Masahudu Zakaria on behalf of the regional director of education noted that the development of every nation depends largely on the quality of education bestowed on its citizens and that, it is in the light of the above that the early missionaries took centre stage in the provision of education during the colonial administration for holistic transformation of its members.
He further stated that the destiny of a nation is shaped on its class rooms which means that, what and how teachers teach in the classroom determines the thinking patterns of students and also sharps the future of a nation through their knowledge and actions.
He said Classrooms are temples of learning and so therefore, if knowledge is Imparted there with the right spirit and methodology, then many problems will be sorted out.
Mr. Masahudu also explained the indispensable role of local managers in Catholic schools discribing their work as one that can be can not be over emphasized and therefore needs some back ground guidelines to guide them noting that the education of a given society is determined by the culture, values and norms of that society.
Consequently, Mr. Zakaria said whenever and wherever the content and organization of education are different from the cultural background of the society, that society falters in its progress and bound to bring social unrest.
The event was chaired by the schools PTA chairman, Mr. Ayuba Seidu and graced by several dignitaries from the Regional and Municipal education directorates.
