The Savannah Regional house of Chiefs on Wednesday 3rd May, 2023 officially took over Mahama Guest house in Damongo, a facility rented for their administrative activities.

According to the Regional house of chiefs, it cost them GHC40, 000 to rent the facility for two years subject to renewal and rehabilitation.

Speaking to the media at the premises of the facility, the vice president of the regional house of Chiefs, Buipewura Abdullai Jinapor II indicated that the late Yagbonwura Tutumba initiated the processes in the acquisition of the facility but was unable to complete it following his demise hence, it’s continuation by the current Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto in acquiring the facility.

He noted that the facility will help in the administrative work of the house especially for the holding of their meetings “We the Savannah house of chiefs can have meetings and a administration”

“We are here today to take over the facility, we have already paid for it for two years and subject to renewal” the chief stated.

The vice president of the Savannah Regional house of chiefs asserted that the facility could be maintained permanently, noting that government is in hard times to build an office facility for them necessitating the chiefs to rent the facility.

“For now the economy is not so good for government to put up office for the regional house of chiefs for the six newly created regions created by the Akuffo Addo government”

“We will not seat aloof if government can’t, we the chiefs will not also do something, that is why the new Yagbonwura has acquired the facility to supplement government efforts, as other regions have also done same” the Vice President added.

The vice president of the Savannah house of chiefs who is also the paramount chief of the Buipe traditional Council stressed that the Yagbonwura hasn’t taken any support from any individual, “the Yagbonwura has not taken money from anybody, no body has contributed anything towards acquiring this facility” but indicated that, the Yagbonwura is yet to appeal for funds from indigence of savannah region and outsiders to facilitate the renovation of the facility.

He Added that, though single handedly rented the facility, the king is appealing to everyone, stakeholders, NGOs and benevolent organizations to come in to help them.

A three member committee was also inaugurated to supersede, facilitate and solicit for funds for the rehabilitation and reshapening of the facility.

When asked about social activities that happens at the facility, the vice president for the Savannah house of chiefs made a passionate statement that social activities like passing out will be encouraged and they shall be supporting them when it is necessary because they are their children, adding that the bar and kitchen will be upgraded to a standard level that will befit the chiefs.
