Youth groups in the Savannah region have been told to uphold religious and ethnic tolerance and values to protect the peace the area enjoys and promote peaceful coexistence for development.
The NCCE Savannah regional directorate intensified its inter-faith engagement on tolerance and peace before, during and after the 2024 general elections with some youth groups at Busunu community in the West Gonja municipality of the Savannah region.
Participants were drawn from various youth groups in the Busunu community.
Some indoor fun games such as Oware, Ludo, Daami and playing cards were organized for the participants.
After the games, participants were sensitized/educated against electoral violence, misinformation/disinformation (fake news), money in politics and religious and ethnic disturbances.
The Savannah Regional Director Mr. Issaka Zitor advised the youth not to sell their votes for money or exchange votes for goodies. He further asked them to fact check information before sharing with friends and relatives, and they should also respect dissenting religious views. He admonished the youth not to fall prey to the devices of political actors who incite electoral violence.
Participants were educated to promote political, religious and ethnic tolerance before, during and after the 2024 General Elections in Ghana. This will promote religious tolerance and acceptance and peace in the country.
Some participants expressed gratitude to the NCCE for coming to their community to engage them and expressed the desire to share the knowledge gained with family and friends.
The NCCE as part of its mandate have been engaging communities and various groups to educate them against issues that can lead to violent conflicts in the Savannah region.
