A group known as Concerned Citizens of East Gonja Traditional Area in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region has petitioned the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare to, as a matter of agency, take off the current East Gonja Municipal Police Commander ACP Amos Kwaku Yelisong.
The citizens of the area are demanding immediate transfer of the Divisional Police Commander ACP Amos Kweku Yelisong due to his gross disrespect towards traditional authorities and other stakeholders.
The petition contains claims of unprofessionalism and incompetence, and the significant threats his actions pose to public safety and the integrity of the police force.
According to the citizens, ACP Yelisong has demonstrated gross incompetence and ineptitude in his leadership role. His arrogant and disrespectful demeanor towards both his
subordinates and members of the community has created a toxic work environment within the police force. His bad human relations and unapproachable posture have eroded trust and confidence in the police among the populace, hindering effective collaboration between law enforcement and the community.
“It is strategic to state that, under the leadership of ACP Yelisong, the East Gonja Police Service has experienced a severe decline in personnel, plummeting from over 75 officers to less than 12 currently. This rate of attrition is primarily based on his gross disrespect for police personnel. This decline in manpower has severely compromised the ability of our police force to effectively combat crime and maintain public safety in our region. The shortage of personnel
has led to increased lawlessness and emboldened criminal elements, posing a grave threat to the security of our community”.
The Concerned citizens of the East Gonja Traditional area therefore urge the inspector General of Police to immediately release ACP Yelisong from his duties in the area for the restoration of professionalism, accountability, and effectiveness within the East Gonja Police Service.

CONCERNED CITIZENS OF EAST GONJA TRADITIONAL AREA.
To: The Inspector General of Police
Subject: Petition for the Transfer of ACP Amos Kwaku Yelisong, Divisional Police
Commander, East Gonja
Date: 02/04/2024
We, the Concerned Citizens of East Gonja Traditional Area, hereby submit this petition to request the immediate transfer of ACP Amos Kwaku Yelisong, the
Divisional Police Commander in East Gonja.
The urgency in his immediate transfer
is critical for the preservation of safety and the restoration of effective law enforcement in our community. We have endured Mr Yelisong’s arrogance and disrespect for far too long anticipating his change of attitude in futility.
We are by this stating that we do not want to co-habit with Mr ACP –Yelisong beyond one week from today 2nd April, 2024 elss…
We wish to give a bit of detail as follows.
First and foremost, it is strategic to state that, under the leadership of ACP Yelisong, the East Gonja Police Service has experienced a severe decline in personnel,
plummeting from over 75 officers to less than 12 currently. This rate of attrition is primarily based on his gross disrespect for police personnel. This decline in manpower has severely compromised the ability of our police force to effectively combat crime and maintain public safety in our region. The shortage of personnel
has led to increased lawlessness and emboldened criminal elements, posing a grave threat to the security of our community.
It is very important to mention Mr ACP Yelisong’s gross disrespect to the traditional authority. This is reflected in his negative comments about the institution and yet will, over delay in responding to calls to pick up cases found criminal and are thus referred from the palace to the police for criminal prosecution.
Furthermore, ACP Yelisong has demonstrated gross incompetence and ineptitude in his leadership role. His arrogant and disrespectful demeanour towards both his subordinates and members of the community have created a toxic work environment within the police force. His bad human relations and unapproachable posture have eroded trust and confidence in the police among the populace, hindering effective collaboration between law enforcement and the community.
Moreover, ACP Yelisong’s involvement in unprofessional activities such as extortion of Fulbes/ Fulanis at the police station further undermines the integrity of the police force and erodes public trust. His preferential treatment of officers who agree to work on his personal farm or house, rather than based on merit or competence, reflects favoritism and nepotism within the police ranks.
In conclusion, the continued tenure of ACP Amos Kwaku Yelisong as the Divisional Police Commander in East Gonja municipality poses a significant threat to public safety and undermines the integrity of the police force.
We, therefore, urge the Inspector General of Police to initiate immediate action to transfer ACP Yelisong from his current position to restore professionalism, accountability, and effectiveness within the East Gonja Police Service.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Alhassan Issifu Dantawri
