Prof. Kalamonia Seeks Re-Election as Savannah NPP Chairman, Calls for Unity Ahead of 2028

Savannah Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alhaji Iddrisu Sulemana, popularly known as Prof. Kalamonia, has officially filed his nomination to seek re-election as the party’s regional chairman, pledging to unite the party and lead it to electoral success in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking to journalists after filing his nomination at the party’s regional office in Damongo on Friday, July 17, Prof. Kalamonia said his decision to contest again was in response to appeals from the party’s grassroots, including the youth, polling station executives, regional executives, traditional authorities, religious leaders, and other stakeholders across the Savannah Region.

“I am here once again to seek re-election because of the call from the youth, chiefs, imams, pastors, executives, and the people of Savannah Region. This region belongs to all of us, and together we can make the party stronger,” he said.

Highlighting his achievements as regional chairman, Prof. Kalamonia noted that when he assumed office, the NPP held only one parliamentary seat in the region. Under his leadership, he said, the party increased its representation to three parliamentary seats before the 2024 general elections.

He acknowledged that the 2024 elections were challenging nationwide, describing the outcome as a “political tsunami,” but maintained that his leadership helped the party retain the Damongo parliamentary seat despite the NPP’s losses across the country.

“Savannah is traditionally an NDC stronghold, yet we managed to retain the Damongo seat. Many regions lost all their parliamentary seats, but Savannah was not among them. That is a testament to the hard work of my executives and the entire party,” he stated.

Prof. Kalamonia urged party members to put aside their differences and unite behind a common vision to reclaim more parliamentary seats in the region in 2028.

“Instead of dividing ourselves, we must come together and work as one family. Unity is the key to victory, and I believe that with a united front, we can wrestle the remaining seats in the Savannah Region,” he emphasized.

The incumbent chairman also highlighted several developmental initiatives he said he facilitated through his leadership, including attracting support for the party’s communication and research directorates, strengthening the party’s youth wing, and contributing to educational development in the region, including efforts toward establishing a College of Education.

He stressed that effective leadership is demonstrated through consistent engagement with the grassroots rather than rhetoric, noting that he has maintained close relationships with party members across all constituencies and electoral areas in the region.

“I know our polling station executives and party members across the region because I work with them on the ground. Leadership is about service, commitment, and sacrifice,” he said.

Prof. Kalamonia further encouraged party faithful to recognize the contributions of members regardless of their educational background, stressing that dedication and hard work remain the foundation of the party’s growth.

As the NPP prepares for its internal elections, Prof. Kalamonia expressed confidence that the delegates would renew his mandate to continue leading the party in the Savannah Region.

He concluded by calling on all members to rally behind the party’s leadership and work collectively towards securing victory for the NPP in the 2028 general elections.
