Policy LINK is a global Feed the Future program Activity to advance leadership and collaboration for better agriculture and food security policy systems.
Feed the Future is America’s global hunger and food security initiative, led financed by USAID.
The two-day capacity enhancement training on climate change for media professionals in the four Northern regions – Northern, North-East, Upper East, Upper West (USAID Zone of Influence) was facilitated by Feed the Future (FTF) Ghana Policy LINK Activity.
The training was organized in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and held at the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga on June 21st – 22nd, 2023.
Climate change threatens the livelihoods and economic development of the country. Unfortunately, the actions and activities, including indiscriminate felling of trees, water pollution through improper waste disposal, and unsustainable land management, are worsening the impacts of climate change.
Educating the public on the dangers of these practices and the need to adopt environmentally sustainable practices are necessary to foster behavioral change and reduce impacts.
Policy LINK, considering the media as an important ally in educating and sensitizing the public, brought together media professionals from four Northern regions to give them a series of trainings aimed at strengthening the capacity of reporters and editors on climate change and environmental issues.
The envisaged outcome of the training is is increased frequency and accuracy of reportage on climate change and environmental issues, and to engender the requisite sensitization of the public on these matters.
The Participants who were drawn from several media houses were enriched in their knowledge of key climate change policies, strategies, and plans, as well as climate change themes such as climate smart agriculture, sustainable water management, sustainable forest management, energy systems, etc.
In April, a similar training was conducted for media professionals in the south.
