The Director General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon , on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, paid a courtesy call on the King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, at the Jakpa Palace in Damongo.

The visit formed part of the Director General’s official tour of the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, where a recent land dispute has displaced more than 48,000 people. Major (Rtd) Dr. Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon explained that his visit to the palace was to formally introduce himself to the Yagbonwura and to seek his blessings and support ahead of the NADMO team’s engagements in the affected communities.

“We have not rested since the news of the conflict broke out. My team and I have been working tirelessly to ensure that the needs of the displaced victims are met,” Major Kue stated.

He acknowledged the critical role of traditional authorities in peacebuilding and called on the King to lend his influence in helping resolve the conflict and in coordinating humanitarian support for those affected.

In response, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I expressed gratitude to the NADMO leadership for the visit and their swift response to the humanitarian crisis. He noted that although the Gonja people are actively working to resolve the conflict, there is a need to engage all parties involved.

“We must speak to the other side as well. As Gonjas, we are committed to peace, especially because of our son, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama,” the King said, urging continued dialogue and peaceful resolution.

The Director General was accompanied by his deputies, the Savannah Regional Minister, the Regional NADMO Director, and other senior officials from the NADMO Headquarters.

The team is also scheduled to inaugurate a Regional Disaster Management Board at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), followed by a tour of selected communities within the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District.

The visit marks a significant step in NADMO’s ongoing efforts to coordinate disaster response and recovery efforts in the Savannah Region, with a focus on building lasting peace and restoring normalcy to the conflict-affected areas.
