Officials from Ghana’s telecommunication network ,MTN and partners in the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation’s Girl’s In ICT programme on Tuesday, 9th May, 2023 joined the ministry of communications at Damongo in the savannah region to grace the 2023 to climax the ministry’s Girl’s In ICT programme.
The Girl’s In ICT programme by the Ministry of Communications forms part of strategies to ensure that Ghana achieves the sustainable development goal five and Ghana’s ICT for accelerated development policy of bridging the gender digital divide and being implemented through the Ghana Investment fund for Electronic Communication (GIFEC) and proudly supported by MTN.
The MTN team led by Madam Adwoa Baah Obeng, a senior Manager for customer retail experience, Northern SBU in a statement expressed their delight to be associated with the kick off session of the 2023 Girl’s In ICT programme which was under the theme; “Digital skills for life”.
She said the theme strongly connects to the words of Houlin Zhao, former general secretary of the International Telecommunications Union(ITU) who once said “girls in ICT day reminds everyone that ICT helps to improve the lives of people everywhere through better healthcare, better environmental management, better communication and educational systems that transforms the children and adults learn”.
She also stated that MTN is very proud of the 1,000 digital maidens who have just completed their fundamental skills training in computing, adding that, MTN believes in doing.
Madam Adwoa Baah further indicated that in march this year, MTN in partnership with the ministry of communications and Digitalisation cut sod for the construction of a twenty five million dollar ICT hub in Accra.
She explained that the ICT hub facility provide an avenue to sustain the development of Ghana’s ICT aspirations and therefore looking forward to see the talented girls utilize the ICT hub and other associated facilities to create solutions and innovations that will transform Ghana.
On behalf of MTN, she expressed their appreciation to the teachers, trainers and mentors for taking time to invest in the girls such a life long skills.
