The Member of Parliament for the Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Shaibu Mahama Obei, has intensified efforts to address critical healthcare challenges in the North Gonja District by working to secure an experienced medical doctor for the Daboya Health Centre.

The North Gonja District, located in the Savannah region of Ghana, has long faced major healthcare challenges, including the absence of a medical doctor and inadequate health infrastructure. The Daboya Health Centre, located in the district capital, has over the past eight years under NPP government effectively functioned as a CHPS compound due to poor service delivery, a development that has raised serious concern among residents.

As a result, many patients requiring basic medical or surgical care are often referred to Damongo, Tolon, or Tamale. In several cases, patients’ conditions reportedly deteriorate during the referral process, leading to complications and, in some instances, poor health outcomes.

Determined to reverse this trend, Hon. Lawyer Shaibu Mahama Obei, who strongly upholds the belief that “health is wealth,” has been working with key stakeholders to bring a qualified medical doctor to manage the Daboya Health Centre.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the MP, accompanied by the District Chief Executive for North Gonja, Hon. Abdullai Nashiru; the Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Salifu Gbepo Timothy; and other party executives, led a familiarization tour of the Daboya Health Centre with a highly experienced medical doctor who has agreed in principle to work in the district and take charge of the facility, according to a statement signed by Alhaji Jabaru John, the Daboya – Mankarigu Constituency NDC Communication Officer

During the visit, the medical doctor outlined key requirements necessary for the effective discharge of his duties. These include the establishment of a theatre, recovery ward, paediatric ward, as well as male and female wards to facilitate procedures such as caesarean sections, appendectomies, and hernia repairs, and to enable the proper admission and care of women and children.

Hon. Lawyer Shaibu Mahama Obei assured the doctor of his commitment to providing the required facilities and disclosed that resources have already been mobilised to commence construction works at the Daboya Health Centre. He noted that the project would create a conducive working environment for the medical team.

The medical doctor is expected to report to the facility with an anaesthetist and other supporting theatre staff once preparations are completed. Plans are also underway to upgrade the Daboya Health Centre into a polyclinic after the facelift and deployment of the medical team.

Beyond healthcare, the MP reaffirmed his commitment to advancing development across the Daboya/Mankarigu Constituency, particularly in education, women empowerment, road infrastructure, and other key sectors.
