A devastating road accident in Damongo has claimed the lives of two residents from the Canteen-Settlement suburb. The tragic incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, May 31, 2025, just a few meters from the West Gonja Municipal Assembly office.
The victims, identified as 23-year-old Dakurah Eyilisun and his mother, Alice Eyilisun, were riding on a motorbike to attend a funeral at Dapalakura when it collided with a bus reportedly traveling from Bole to Tamale. Eyewitnesses say the bus struck the motorbike as it was moving along the roadside, resulting in a violent impact.
Dakurah Eyilisun died instantly at the scene. His mother, Alice, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the St. Anne’s Catholic Hospital in Damongo, where she was pronounced dead hours later despite efforts to save her.
The sudden deaths have left the Damongo community in shock, with many mourning the loss of the mother and son known affectionately in the area.
Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution on the roads, particularly along the busy Bole-Damongo-Tamale route, to prevent further tragedies.
