John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of National Democratic Congress (NDC) has assured the Overlord of Gonja Kingdom Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale I that, he will make sure the King moves to the new Jakpa Palace edifice latest by November 2024 when the construction work is finished.
The former President disclosed this during a groundbreaking ceremony to handover the site for the construction of the Jakpa Palace. The sod cutting was jointly executed by both John Mahama and Jira Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale I.
The new palace is intentionally designed to reflect Sahelian architecture, reminiscent of Gonja’s origins in the Mande region around Mali, adding that, ” it will be a grand symbol of our history and heritage”.
John Mahama, who has taken charge of funding the project expressed gratitude to the Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, his cabinet , Queen Mothers, the rank and file of the NDC, the people of area and Gonjaland at large for the commitment and support over the years and reassured that he won’t disappoint the people of the area.
“This is a very important day for the Gonja Kingdom as we cut the sod for the construction of a new palace for the Overlord of Gonja, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Gonja people. I want to assure the Overlord of Gonja Kingdom that this project will be completed in October 2024. They won’t be any disappointment”.
John Mahama called on the people of Gonjaland to continue to work together to preserve the legacy of the founder of the Gonja Kingdom Sumaila Ndewura Jakpa.
The contractor, Grandeze Construction Company Limited, is already on site and promised to complete the project within time as scheduled, adding that, all contract payments have been fulfilled by former president John Dramani Mahama.
The Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbonwura BiiKunuto Jewu Soale I offered special prayers for His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and thanked him for the project.
