The King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Jira Yagbonwura Jewu Soale I Bii-Kunuto, on 16th May each year celebrates his birthday by supporting the less privileged in society.
The 2026 celebration saw the King donate food items to the Redemption Orphanage Home in Damongo.
Jira Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto expressed gratitude to the management of the home and appealed to all sons and daughters of Gonja to remember the little ones at the orphanage from time to time.
The King also advised the young ones to remain disciplined and prayerful and keep up with education to build solid foundation for the future.
Receiving the items, Pastor Abraham, the head of the orphanage, commended the Gonja King for remembering them on this special day and prayed for the King.
Pastor Abraham revealed that plans are far advanced for the Redemption Orphanage Home to officially visit the Jakpa Palace and interact with Jira Yagbonwura in the coming months. He also echoed the appeal for support for the children.
The orphanage currently has 40 children, including infants as young as six months old.
The items donated included undisclosed amount of cash, rice, cooking oil, sanitary supplies, maize, water, assorted drinks, among others.
The donation was made on behalf of the King by staff of the Palace, led by Musah Majid, Abdul Malik, and Mohammed Iddriisu Astro.
